We recently connected with Mindy Stamulis and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Mindy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’re complete cheeseballs and so we love asking folks to share the most heartwarming moment from their career – do you have a touching moment you can share with us?
It’s a vulnerable thing at times to formulate and create mind, body, spirit solutions. You deep dive into medical constituents, history, plant intelligence, body mechanics, etc to create supportive solutions. Your heart and soul is poured into it. So when you put it “out there” you hope it’s loved and is serving as you believe it to be. When I receive testimonials as to how it is changing lives, and improving wellness of all who use HeadPlant, it is so so humbling. I have so much gratitude and joy by those receiving a new lease on life. That means everything to me to have body peace.
Mindy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have a near 30 years tenure in the cosmetology industry. As full as it has been including fashion, print, and education, I had wondered what is next for me. As much as my industry evolved, so did I as a woman. So I looked inward. I have always had a synergistic interest in health, fitness, and wellness in my personal life. If anything, they all carpool with all that is the beauty industry. Eventually I found myself reacquainting with herbs again. I started my journey as a reiki practitioner, and eventually I found a home at a holistic school in my community. I began to learn about medical herbalism while working on my first prototype: a scalp and skin serum. It took off and I remained in school on-going to receive a phd level certification in Medical Phytotherapy, Medical Aromatherapy, and other plant medicine studies. HeadPlant Modern Alchemy was born from this hustle satisfying the medical requirements for the program all together.
I joke about HeadPlant starting from a place to cure dandruff but it isn’t a lie either. The beauty of plant medicine is that it will never do just one thing. Each formulation is so intelligent, complex, spirited, and intentional. So it took off. It suddenly took care of psoriasis. It healed up rashes, conditions, burns, incisions. It reduced fine lines, cracked skin, and discoloration. It also took away body inflammation and pain. That was a big deal for many. We have a sister formulation that fosters stronger hair growth and hair regeneration. A third line that acts as a thermogenic that detoxifies and tones bodies. Not to mention the fun we have “off the menu”.
It’s grown leaps and bounds as a concept, product, and as a company too. We are starting to blip up on the map in a few areas with enthusiasm. It’s neat to be able to connect to new communities.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
I really think about Team HeadPlant. Over the past two years, I started to develop a team that had formed itself rather organically. In truth I suspect it still is forming itself. I always say without them I would not be this far at all. I don’t think I could do it at all! So I say build a team and learn how to lean into them. Have people exactly where they want to be. Make sure people are happy in their lanes and excel by being there. Then learn to lean to them so that you aren’t taking on everything. You can’t take it all on. Nor should you. Find your lane in it all. There one will find cohesiveness and the motor starts running.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Our biggest challenge so far has been navigating in the field of all things Hemp. I utilize Hemp because it’s a fantastic plant medicine. I am not a “Hemp company” but I will incorporate it in my formulations because it’s that worth it. However it flags us as “high-risk”. We are strictly nailed to FDA construct and regulations. We are limited with what we are allowed to say medically, are turned down by many banks and payments systems, and even struggle to seek university based interns. We definitely have been knocked off our feet a few times for compliance constraints but find our way to properly set up our website, or credit card processing, or simply language around what we know our products do versus what we are allowed to say. Hemp industry is hard!
