We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mindy Keegan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Mindy, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I came up with this idea after starting and growing a successful product-based business of my own. I was able to build a supportive community of raving fans around the mugs I designed and sold, all through social media. As I networked through that business and met other business owners, I received a lot of questions about how I was building a community, how I knew what to post about, how I was selling on social media and getting so much involvement. I knew there was a need for social media services, and I realized, after much reflection, that I was good at putting myself in my customer’s shoes, storytelling and communication. As I was entering a new stage of life with my children, I was also entering a new stage of business, where it was time to give up the mug shop and use my knowledge and expertise to help other businesses grow their communities on social platforms. Since I’ve been in their shoes, running a product business by myself and trying to do everything, I know exactly how they feel and how to connect with them-I know what they need. The most exciting part about the idea was that I can use my creativity and focus on my zone of genius every single day!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I worked in corporate for 11 years and left to be home after I had my second baby boy. While I was home, I started a product-based business selling mugs. I grew that business, built an amazing community around it through social media and learned all about social selling, business logistics, and what it takes to start and run a business. I had a lot of questions from other business owners on how I was growing so quickly, selling on social media, how I knew what to post on social media and how they could do the same. After 3 years of running my product-business, I knew it was time to pivot to a service-based business, where I could work in my zone of genius every day to create social media strategy and content for other businesses who need that help. Now, I help give those businesses back TIME to run their business, mentor their team, or spend with family by running their social media accounts. I’m proud that I took the time I needed to reflect and make a decision based on what I want and feels good at this point in my life. I love that I get to connect with other business owners, learn their stories, share their stories and brand values, and relay that message to their audience in a way that resonates with them.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe that my reputation has been built by sharing my previous experiences. The fact that I owned another product-based business, I showed up, I networked online and locally, I was involved in masterminds, reached out to press and let people know who I was and what I was doing. As I’ve gotten started with my social media service business, my reputation has carried over and people know that they can trust me, they know I’ll show up for them and will do my absolutely best to get them results, based on their goals. I’ve been in their shoes, so I know what it’s like running a business and showing up on social media, so I am able to speak to that, relate to my potential clients and tell them how I did it and how I can bring those skills to partner with them.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I am in contact with my clients frequently. We have monthly strategy calls, month-end reporting calls, I share when content has been updated, if I notice a WIN on their socials, etc. We have an amazing working relationship, and I make it clear how/when they can reach me. I know that it takes a lot of trust to allow someone into your business, so I always keep that in mind and remain as transparent as possible with them at all time. I treat them how I’d want to be treated if I was investing in a service for my own business.
