Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mindy Evans. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mindy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
My fitness journey start in 2014 when I decided to take control of my health. I started working out regularly and with that I met new friends at the gym, gained confidence and became a healthier person. This started my journey to become a personal trainer. I saw the impact fitness had on my life and wanted to share it with others. I started running and biking, which led to participating in half marathons, mountain bike races and group road rides. Then I eventually added swimming to the mix and dabbled in triathlons. I love the community that comes with racing and fitness and wanted to share that so I became certified in personal training and now I train clients and get to experience their success stories and help them build a fitness community.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a 34 year old mom, wife, business woman (I work full-time in finance) and a passionate personal trainer. I create on-line personal training plans for my clients that are structured for at-home or gym workouts, along with in-person personal training. I founded ME Fit (Mindy Evans Fitness) to help clients find their fit. Fitness is not a one size fits all approach, especially for women and looks different for everyone so I tailor workouts to meet the clients specific needs and goals. I work with people who are avid in fitness to weekend warriors, we are all athletes! I am most proud and excited to share this journey with my daughter. I want her to know she can always pursue her passions and live a healthy lifestyle. I am also fulfilled that I get to work with other people who have the same struggles and concerns that I have had or still have. I can be a sounding board for them and then help solve their problems by my fitness plans. Fitness is am on-going journey and I am happy to be here to help navigate through it.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
After I had my daughter, I was diagnosed with postpartum depression. It was a trying time and through therapy I have recovered and learned so much about myself through the process. During that time, I was still dedicated to my fitness journey even on days when my alarm was set for 4:30am and all I wanted to do was sleep all day, I somehow convinced myself to get out of bed and go to the gym. Fitness was an escape for me and helped me heal. It was during this time that I wanted to pursue a passion other than my day job and I did! Some might not think it was the best time for me to pursue another career avenue while suffering from a mental illness, but I think it was exactly what I needed to help heal!

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
If you are a new personal trainer, my advice would be to put yourself out there! Yes, you will fail, but learn from it and reassess your strategy. It is never to late to pursue your passion. I feel more fulfilled now that I am able to do something I am passionate about.
