We were lucky to catch up with Mina Hadey recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Mina thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
My journey into the world of eyebrow threading began when I was around 12 or 13 years old. Growing up in a Middle Eastern household, it was customary for my mother to thread the eyebrows of both my sister and me, as this practice is prevalent in Iraq, my country of origin. However, after a mishap with my brows, I felt compelled to learn the technique myself to avoid relying on her expertise. At that time, my passion for beauty-particularly makeup and hairstyling-was flourishing, and I took a keen interest in perfecting my eyebrows.
Soon, I expanded my skills to threading the eyebrows of my family members. During my eighth-grade year, I brought thread to school and practiced on classmates and even a teacher, seizing every opportunity to refine my technique. By high school, I worked in my living room offering threading services to clients seated in a dining chair. At 15, I secured my first job as an eyebrow threader; however, I quickly realized that working from home was more profitable.
While enrolled in the “West-Mec” cosmetology program in 11th grade, I balanced my high school studies, two part-time jobs, and a growing threading clientele. By my second year, I recognized that hair did not captivate me as much as eyebrows did, prompting my decision to specialize in this area. I graduated in 2020 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, during which my father constructed a beauty room in our garage for greater client comfort. In 2021, I expanded my offerings to include lamination and tinting, successfully growing my clientele through referrals and social media. Now, in 2023, I have transitioned to a salon suite with a fully booked schedule, deeply grateful for the experiences that have led me to this point.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My journey into the world of eyebrow threading began at the tender age of 12, rooted deeply in my Middle Eastern heritage. Growing up in an Iraqi household, my mother would meticulously thread my sister’s and my brows, a practice that felt like a rite of passage. However, a mishap with my own brows ignited a desire in me to master this art myself. As my passion for beauty flourished, I immersed myself in the technique, eager to gain control over my appearance.
Now, at 22, with nearly a decade of experience in the eyebrow industry, I proudly run my own salon suite in Glendale, Arizona. My approach transcends mere beauty; I believe in infusing love into every interaction. I take the time to connect with each client, meticulously consulting on their unique lifestyles, skincare routines, and dream brows. This personal touch transforms a simple service into a heartfelt experience.
I cherish the relationships I’ve built; many clients trust me to create looks that suit them best. My suite is a safe space where clients feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and stories. It’s more than a business for me; it’s a community cultivated through love and connection. When you see clients as more than just clients, the beauty of the experience truly shines.
