We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mimo The Musician a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi MiMo, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
After a Decade in the Making, My Debut Album “Honey Brown Eyes” is Finally Here
I’m excited to announce the release of my debut album, Honey Brown Eyes, a project that’s been ten years in the making. This album represents not just my music, but the journey that’s shaped me along the way. Balancing multiple jobs while chasing my dream of making music was a constant struggle, and for a long time, I couldn’t find the right harmony between my art and my livelihood.
But after five years of trial and error, and one global pandemic later, Nashville gave me the clarity I needed. I spent years writing, refining, and finally selecting my best ten songs. That’s when I had the privilege of teaming up with Grammy-winning producer Dave Hagen, who brought this vision to life. Together, we created Honey Brown Eyes, a labor of love that captures my voice as a singer-songwriter.
Today, I’m performing every week, putting out content regularly, and—against all odds—managing to keep the lights on and the music flowing. This album isn’t just the culmination of hard work; it’s the start of a new chapter, a momentum that has carried me from “I want to do this” to actually doing it. I know so many creatives can relate to that turning point. For me, this album is about more than music—it’s about finally finding balance, embracing the process, and sharing that journey with the world.

MiMo, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got my start as a guitarist in rock bands, but over time I found my voice, started writing songs, and learned to sing. Picked up some new instruments along the way—piano, drums, bass, even ukulele—and thanks to my friends and the internet, I kept growing. Went to college, grabbed a bachelor’s and master’s in music education, and now I’m running the show solo—writing, recording, and still learning the ropes with mixing and mastering.
I teach guitar, piano, drums, bass, and more to keep the lights on, but my real pride is in being self-sufficient and creating my own sound. If you’re into indie or rock and root for the underdog, I’m your guy. Need an indie artist, a 90s/2000s cover band, or want lessons? Hit me up. I’ve studied it all—classical guitar, composition, arranging, tech—but I’ll always be a student of music.
Check out my tracks and see if you dig them!

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My baseline has always been to make a living off music, be self-sufficient. It’s a grind—every musician I know has juggled jobs and made sacrifices just to get their music out there. But if I can wake up every day, be my own boss, set my own schedule, and earn my keep doing what I love—creating and sharing my music on my terms—that’s the dream life. And, of course, loving the hell out of my dog

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
It’s tough to pin down just one thing, because every artist thrives differently. But if we’re talking about reaching people, it’s all about social media and streaming—your IG, TikTok, Spotify, all of it. The more follows, listens, and shares, the better your chances of getting your name out there. Then, get out to the shows! Support your friends, buy the music, crank it in your car, and add it to your playlists. The algorithm loves numbers, and more numbers mean more exposure, more fans, and more people vibing with the art you’re putting out.
