Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mimi Knoblock. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mimi, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you recount a story of an unexpected problem you’ve faced along the way?
I had previously spoken about how my husband’s health led me to start my own business. I had to quit my job to be able to take care of him while he recovered from a massive brain bleed.
Mimi, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into this business due to an emergency. My husband had a massive brain bleed in 2014. I quit my job to take care of my husband full-time. Both of us losing our income, I had to figure out how to be able to work from home so I could still take care of my dear husband. These were pre-covid days before work-from-home jobs were easier to find.
I am very proud of myself for not shutting my business down. Since the last time we spoke, my husband passed away, completely unrelated to his brain bleed, he passed from an injury caused by a car accident. It was just a few weeks before COVID shut the whole world down, and again, I was left to figure out life, but this time on my own, and through a pandemic. Thankfully I have a fantastic support system, family, church family, and friends. My business was put on hold while this time I concentrated on taking care of myself. Healing from something like this is no easy task.
Having lost the income of my husband left me with only surviving on mine, and as with most businesses, the pandemic took a big financial hit on it. I HAD to figure out finances, and so I went back to work, after many years of only working for myself. Two full-time jobs while still running my business.
In January I made it a goal to be able to be at home again and quit my job, and I left that job in June. I’m back home, concentrating on my business, while dipping my toes in freelancing.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My mission nowadays is to “Make him Proud”, I think of my husband in everything I do. Oftentimes, when I was working in my office late at night, he would peek his head in the door and say “Honey, I’m so proud of you!”, and so that’s my goal. Keep making him proud of all the decisions that I am making in his memory.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Rebuilding my entire life after my husband’s passing. It would’ve been so easy to just give up, but I know that my husband wouldn’t want that for me.
