We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful MiMi Edouard. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with MiMi below.
MiMi, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
I was trying to think of what embodies my love for fashion and a reflection of who I am, hence the name Dose of Mi (which is part of my nickname thay could also be “Me”).
Dose of Mi is for the women who acknowledges where she’s been and knows where she’s going. Her confidence is immediately felt the moment she steps into a room. She most cetrtainly doesn’t look like what she’s been through. My brand is me.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I launched my business 5 years ago but it was always a dream 8 years before that. I was in college so you can imagine I didn’t have much to start a brand so I continued to dream and plan until I got my moment. When I got my first tax return check from my first big girl job, I took it and purchased my first collection.
Dose of Mi is an online women’s boutique that carries styles S-3X, swimwear and accessories. It’s almost rare to find clothing that goes up thay size and if they do they’re usually not the most stylish. Everyone should feel fly and confident no matter what size.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I quickly learned that everyone you know family and friends won’t support you and that’s ok. I always use the analogy that the grocery store carries a ton of different types of bread and they all get sold/ate. The clothes I sell may not be someone’s style but there are others who will be first in line. My brand is fabulous. I have my tribe and it will continue to grow.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Consistency will get you ahead every time. And consistency is definitely the hardest thing to do when you are still growing and don’t have the resources you need to move in the same pace as a bigger brand. But it’s important to stay true to yourself and remember what your brand represents. That’ll help you stay creative and different from others.
