We recently connected with Mimi Blanchard and have shared our conversation below.
Mimi, appreciate you joining us today. One of our favorite things to hear about is stories around the nicest thing someone has done for someone else – what’s the nicest thing someone has ever done for you?
Trusting me has been the kindest thing anyone has done for me. I appreciate the responsibility that comes with it, hence allowing me to transform my approach to design. I’m grateful for the opportunity to hold someone else’s ideas and translate them into brand strategies and design work. Whether it’s a meaningful meeting about a rebranded logo, a new motion graphic layout for a radio show, or collaborating with law enforcement, being involved in these conversations is validating. These opportunities exist because people trust me, allowing me to speak with and trust myself more, making my efforts manageable. It’s no longer hard; it’s a process of coherence.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My journey into the world of design kicked off at 13 years old, when I began drawing fan art of Sonic the Hedgehog, setting the stage for my creative career. Over the past 12 years, I’ve honed my skills in graphic and motion design, collaborating with clients like YouTube, Prada, Major League Baseball, and Google. As a motion graphics designer and branding consultant, I specialize in creating engaging, data-driven designs that enhance brand visibility and foster audience connections. I’m proud to deliver impactful solutions across various sectors, focusing on meaningful engagement and high ROI for my clients.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My mission’s to guide clients through a personalized design process that emphasizes empathy and data analytics. I aim to provide disproportionate value in every project, helping clients understand how their business analytics and brand strategy influences design outcomes. By conducting thorough research, I gain insights into demographics, direct and indirect competitors, and sister organizations, allowing me to identify challenges and opportunities within the client’s “ecosystem.” Ultimately, I strive to translate brand values into meaningful designs that create lasting impact for both clients and their audiences, fostering long-term success for all involved.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative? It transcends the boundaries of work; it has become a true reflection of who I am. Initially, I used design as a coping mechanism, but through unlearning past habits and working with my fears, I’ve transformed what was once a crutch into an oar, helping me navigate through metaphorically different “bodies of water.” Now, design’s an integral part of my life, allowing me to engage with my vulnerabilities and learn as I ‘flow.’ This seamless integration enriches my creative expression and deepens my connections with clients and audiences alike.
