We were lucky to catch up with Mimi Alexa recently and have shared our conversation below.
Mimi Alexa, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
I took a very big risk by leaving my job a week before my son birthday, jobs always give you stability because you know exactly what date you are getting your paycheck. Being an entrepreneur you don’t really know what is going to happen but you know that this is your purpose and you are going to do everything in your power to make it work. When I worked at my last job I literally was missing out on clients all day long because I was at work from 10am-6pm , now that I quit my job I am able to go all the way with my business and I couldn’t be happier.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I got into the beauty industry by scrolling down instagram one day and it was brought to my attention a very talented lash artist was having a lash class with everything included , I instantly signed up for her class and paid my deposit. After I took her class I fell in love with lashing, I started trying to practice on everybody that would let me. I then started taking clients and fell in love how they would react after they seen my work on them. When I first started out my brand was called “MinkedByMimi” but the more I started getting into the industry I realized I wanted to provide way more than just lashes, so I rebranded myself as “MimiAlexaglambar” I have a new service I will be adding in a few months and I know all of my glam dolls will be very excited about that. What set me apart from other artist is I will go above and beyond for my clients, I don’t just look at them as clients. I understand sometimes things happen and I don’t want to automatically cancel them out because something happened out of their control.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience on social media by being consistent everyday. I was throwing out deals every month to get noticed. October, November and December were very big months for me. I was getting 4 to 5 clients a day and they would tell their family and friends about me. Advice I would give to upcoming entrepreneurs wanting to build their social media presence is to be consistent with posting, even if you think your hard work is going unnoticed they are watching and it will pay off in the long run.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The best effective strategy has been word of month , that saying that goes “tell a friend to tell a friend” is literally my favorite because once someone see your client lashes and ask about the artist, they will get your information and come to you. It happens literally everyday.
