We were lucky to catch up with Mimi Alas recently and have shared our conversation below.
Mimi , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
I started a fashion blog when I was 18 with my best friend, and since then, I’ve been passionate about the digital space. I have a bachelor’s in Communications, a Master’s in Fashion Marketing and a second Master’s in Spanish Journalism. For the last 11 years, I’ve been a creative in the social media space, creating and producing content at first for fun and then as a full-time career.
My career has had two sides, one the journalism, which has allowed me to interview artists in the Latin music space and cover several events and releases, and the content creation side. This one has allowed me to work in front of the camera and behind the camera, creating content for digital platforms with numerous brands and companies through my career, including NYX Cosmetics, Pandora, OPI, 10PM Curfew, Audiomack Latin, Riqueza Collective and more.
Initially, I wanted to be on the TV as a host. But I’ve learned that I have a world of possibilities for me, by utilizing my love for being on camera but for the social media space and basically becoming the digital talent/host of the brand or the company. I also create content backstage for them, and I’ve been able to make it a full-time thing.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Mimi Alas, I am 29 years old, and I was born and raised in El Salvador, but moved to Miami, Florida in 2022. I am a bilingual multigenerational Content Producer and Creator, and an Entertainment Journalist.
My career started in 2013, when I started a fashion and beauty blog with my best friend and the following year, I started my bachelor’s in Communications. While I was studying, I was also working on my career as a content creator (blogger at that time) and writer. I graduated in 2020 with honors and in 2021, I started my first Master’s in Fashion Marketing and in 2023, my second Master’s in Spanish Journalism.
I’m still in awe of how something I loved doings as a hobby, 11 years later, has become my full-time job. It didn’t happen overnight and took me a long time to figure it out, but now I feel like every step on my journey has allowed me to be here now.
What I am the most proud of, is the fact that I never gave up and that this is something that definitely didn’t happen overnight. I can’t count the times I was impatient, or I got frustrated, but now I believe that God has the perfect timing. All these years, He was working in the background, so I could prepare myself for when the right opportunities showed up.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn is that it doesn’t have to be perfect. Don’t get me wrong! You can’t be mediocre, however, sometimes we stop ourselves from starting a new project, a dream, or a goal because we don’t feel 1000% ready, but guess what? You will never be fully ready.
I remember a lot of times, especially when I had my blog back in 2013-2014, I stopped myself from doing stuff because I didn’t have a professional camera and I couldn’t afford a better phone. I was afraid that people were going to think my content was bad, or I was ridiculous. Now I look back, and I wish I had done more, but I also think that everything happens as it is supposed to happen. Because unlearning that lesson of wait until you are 1000% ready is what has opened me a lot of doors and opportunities in my life. Now, I go after the opportunity, even if I don’t feel at my 100%, and I repeat to myself: “I already have a NO for an answer, so what is the worst that could happen if I try?”.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I’ve always had a heart for working with women and helping them on their journey of becoming the best version of themselves. In the past, I was talking a lot about self-love and confidence on my content, whether I was creating it for my personal social media or writing articles for different magazines.
But now I also believe that self-love and empowerment for a woman means that she does all the work inside out, to become the woman she has always wanted to be. And I hope not only my content but also, my testimony, can encourage other women to pursue their dreams with God on their team. But also, to do all the inner work and healing to become the best version of themselves.
Again, related to women, one of my goals is to be able to provide college education for women in El Salvador, the country where I am originally from. I truly believe education gives women more freedom in different areas of their lives and I would love to be part of their journey through providing financial support for them to complete their college degrees.
