We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mim Chowdhury. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mim below.
Introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context.
I was born in Bangladesh, and I moved to the United States after high school.
My passion is modeling: Runway, Print, Catalog, Editorial, etc. It debuted as early as when I was in high school, performing at World Cup Cricket Opening Ceremony. My exposure to Fashion Modeling happened in multiple areas; from runway shows in New York Fashion Week to the Botanical Garden in North Carolina to several runway shows in Atlanta. I got published in magazines, blogs, and newspapers multiple times. I also participated in movies, short films, music videos, etc. I worked with designers and brands like Dior MewMews, Elite Pour La Vie, Bella Barnett, etc.
I also started to paint on canvas from the time I was around 14 and became more prolific with landscapes, objects, abstract patterns, etc. The stroking of the brush on the canvas makes me more aware of my surroundings; and develops my artistic sensibilities. It is a joy looking at all of my paintings hanging on the walls of our house.
I graduated from DeVry University with Multimedia Design and Development last year. I am currently involved as a Freelance Multimedia Designer. I am also focusing as an Instagram Content Creator and Influencer. I have already attained almost 11k followers….and hopefully growing.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The biggest suggestion I have for succeeding in any endeavor is to “focus on the client”. I also interact promptly with anyone who interacts with me, and I patiently listen to the feedback. What works effectively is to observe, listen, and then be able to adjust accordingly. The motto is: do not be static. Additionally you have to be consistent with your branding. You do not wish to dilute your brand by changing your exposure constantly. Your clients must be able to trust your work ability.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Speaking of a story about resilience, let’s start with my life…from the beginning. I was born in a culturally conservative country halfway around the world. I begin my story with the revelation I have epilepsy.
It is a part of me and my journey on this earth. I know there are some other individuals who are going through this same passage if that is any consolation. My association with epilepsy began with my first seizure when I was 10 years old. And thus my current journey with epilepsy continues. My first seizure was when I was 10 years old.
Epilepsy; nevertheless, did not prove to be a limiting factor in my subsequent life. It might even make me more aware of my surroundings and developed my artistic sensibilities. I started to paint on canvas from the time I was around 16 and alongside somehow excelled in academic grades in Bangladesh. The production of my paintings became more prolific as time passed, and after arriving in the USA I passionately got involved with fashion modeling.
The highlight of that endeavor was my trip to New York City in February of last year where I was invited to walk in a runway show at the New York High Tech Moda Fashion Show. That was a dream comes true in my young life. I got photographed in several modeling magazines and landed spots on a couple of magazine covers in Atlanta. There was also a stint in a movie called “Deb” and I was part of a music video. I also got exposed to the wonderfully creative world of web design at my academic institution, where I can express my artistic abilities to their fullest imagination.
Meanwhile, once I made my voyage to the United States, I steadfastly remained persistent to pursue and to succeed to bring my passion for Fashion Modeling to a reality. Resilience for me meant to be always watching out to make good use of the opportunity that gets presented to me. That was my path to use persistence to grow a passion from a dream to reality. The question is, how do we capture that exceedingly fleeting instance of our lives and transform the circumstance into a successful venture? Never falter on resilience.
