Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Milton Ludington-matute. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Milton thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
My most meaningful project is what I’m currently working on called the “Crossroads LP” which will be dropping late summer this year. This project is composed of works I’ve done solo, or with Charlemagne, my band, Carter Reeves of Surfer Girl, Zebby of Tribal Seeds, Lew Richards of 17th Street Recordings and more. Current singles “Crossroads” and “More” are apart of this project and just the beginning. I plan to continuously release music through 2025 and still have some surprises on the final LP drop late summer.
This album drop is been a long time coming. Almost 4 years in the making. In the process I’ve gone through a rebrand as an artist and learned so much about the craft itself. Lots of lessons learned. This project represents the crossroads that many of us are experiencing in our lives and that we must keep forward no matter what happens.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m an artist/musician born in Northern California but spent most of my time as a Marylander since the age of 12. Inspired by a diverse range of musical genres, “MILTON J” (thats me haha) incorporates an eclectic sound that fuses rock, hip hop, pop and reggae. The sound is a unique blend of these styles. Musical influences range from Nas to Linkin Park, Sublime, Rage Against the Machine, and more major inspirations for the blend. The lyrics are often conscious & introspective, touching on life’s struggles around themes of personal growth, love, and the pursuit of happiness.
I think what sets me apart from others is the type of song I can write and how I approach the production. My sound is different any way you slice it. My tone and direction is left brain/left field so I can keep you guessing on whats going to happen next. I can also put on a high energy show which I think is a must when you’re trying to win over a new listener.
I’m proud of my work ethic and consistency. Anyone who’s followed my journey knows that I put my heart and soul into my music. I do it for the sake of doing it and not for anything else.
Fans may know about the work I’ve done in the past with multi-platinum BX producer Charlemagne or my self-produced works and recordings. I’ve also had some notable features with names like Benny The Butcher and plan to have some jaw dropping features coming out this year.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
It’s the process of creating itself. Humans were meant to create everyday. So the act of doing that itself is healing for me. I can’t say I’ve wanted to do anything else in this life from the get go. It’s just been family and the music.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I wish I spent more time and resources on direct to consumer strategies earlier and not put so much into building our our modern day social media platforms. Don’t get me wrong you need to have a strong social media pressence to communicate with your fans but never trust those tools with the key to access your fanbase. Establishing direct access to your base is establishing your own industry.
I also wish I learned how to record/mix/master/film/edit faster than I did. It’s necessary to be sharp at these tools when you’re running an independent LLC for your artist brand, So the better you get at them the easier your rollouts will be for your music. Tools like Logic pro, Melodyne, Wavs and UA vocal bundle plug ins, Adobe Premier, Adobe Photoshop, Canva, asset subscriptions like Motion Array can all be ways for you to increase output and efficiencies in a way that does not make you want to burn your studio to the ground.
The same goes for gear. Go for what is sensible and can bring the sound you’re looking for. This can take longer than you realize when you’re putting together your own set up. For example, taking a Line 6 HX stomp on the road or studio trip instead of vintage amps, ribbon mics, and dozens of pedals.
