We recently connected with Milton Johnson and have shared our conversation below.
Milton, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I would have to say it is prison ministry. There is no particular camp, but every facility I have been blessed to minister in has been meaningful in several ways.
I can remember the days when I was on the wrong path which ultimately led me to a prison cell. In detention, everything is taken from you. Your name, your freedom, your dignity, your ability to choose when to wake up and go to sleep, your privacy. Everything! In a place that takes so much from you, it is a blessing when people come to give to you.
That’s what prison ministry is all about. We go in to give hope to the hopeless. To let them know there is a God who sits high and has called them by name, who sets the captives free and removes all shame and guilt.
Since 2019 I have been blessed to lock arms with ministries like Convicted 2 Conquer, Sheperdown, and Worthy People church. We’ve collectively ministered to thousands around Texas Correctional Facilities. I run a service with my church every 4th Saturday of the month at the Colemans Unit in Lockhart, Tx.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
“Hey everyone, I’m Mr. Johnson, a Christian Hip-Hop artist based in San Antonio, Texas. I’ve been writing raps since I was just a kid – about 8 years old! My mom recognized my passion early on and helped me get into a recording studio at age 12. It’s been an incredible journey ever since, performing at various venues and sharing my music with the world.
What sets me apart is my dedication to spreading a message of hope and faith through my music. I want to build up the Kingdom of God and uplift those who may be lost. My music is all about overcoming struggles, finding strength in faith, and living a life guided by Christian values.
I released my first EP, “War With-In,” back in 2017, and it really helped establish me in the Christian Hip-Hop scene. Since then, I’ve dropped some singles like “Right Way,” “Not Alone,” and “Nobody,” and even completed a Texas tour with Jesus Lives In My City called the “United Tour” in 2021. Earlier this year, I released my first full-length album, “Whole Nother Way”. I took a new approach in 2024 by releasing a brand new song and video every single month!
I’m incredibly proud of how my music has been able to touch people’s lives and bring them closer to God. If you’re looking for music that inspires, motivates, and uplifts, I invite you to check out my work. I believe that music has the power to heal and transform, and I’m committed to using my talent to make a positive impact on the world.”
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Everybody has a story to tell. My story might be different or similar depending on who’s listening. The Bible tells us that we overcome by the Blood of the Lamb and the words of our testimony. Me sharing my story in my creative way could be exactly what someone needs to help make a decision that could change their life. That’s priceless. That has a lasting impact that goes beyond money, fame, and accolades.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Pace yourself, and be consistent. You don’t have to keep up with everyone, but you do have to be dependable. Set a rhythm that you can keep up with and your audience will appreciate you for it.
