We recently connected with Milli Moon and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Milli, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
As an artist I would consider myself a brand. My real name is Camille and I had many nick names from Cam, Cami, and Chamilitary. The best nick name, Milli was given to me after Lil Wayne dropped his hit song, ‘A Milli’.
Sailor Moon was one of my favorite anime shows growing up and I loved the characters, aesthetics, and messages it promoted. I wanted to be a sailor scout, saving the world with love and beauty.
One of my hobbies during High School was reading and writing stories on fan fiction sites. While considering an artist name in the beginning of my musical journey, I thought of my old user name: Milli_Moon.
Milli Moon like Sailor Moon
Milli like a million
Million Moons like the many phases and ideas I present into any form of my art.

Milli, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was born in the 90’s in New York by my two Jamaican born parents so music and culture were a big part of my life. I was a quiet and shy kid with a loud imagination to create. Although I wasn’t confident in my voice and stage presence, I still had a love for singing and creating sounds.
In 2015 I met YZM, a popular artist in Tampa who heard my voice and strongly encouraged me to start making music. I became apart of the local music scene ever since.
With the variety of styles in the city I aim to make a difference with my sound. I love to mix jazz and hip hop with sultry r&b, neo soul, plug&b and drum&bass.
A common question asked is “how far am I trying to go with the music?” My goal is to create a place for my listeners to escape for the moment. I want to go wherever my musical journey takes me, whether fame is involved or not.
My musical favorites/inspirations are:
Sade, Ciara, Janet Jackson, Jhené Aiko, Syd, Erykah Badu, Aaliyah, Sabrina Claudio, Alina Baraz, Rihanna, Brandy, Floetry, Mya, Etta Bond, Brent Fiaz, Chris Brown,

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Before I started taking my music serious I was only following my friends and celebrities. I would post memes and random photos of what I liked. I soon realized I had to alter the way I post in order to properly promote myself.
1. I turned my instagram page into a music artist page with the title “artist” in the bio.
2. I posted my Linktree in my bio so viewers can easily find all of my musical content.
3. I pay attention to the algorithm across different social media sites so I can get the most engagement from my posts and stories.
4. I incorporate my music with aesthetic videos and photos and limit what I post for viewers to get a brief overview of who I am.
5. I use other social media platforms to promote and engage like TikTok, Facebook and YouTube
6. Once I have a layout and plan of when I will release music I stay consistent with promotion

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective way that I grow supporters is to attend music events in the city. The more that I’m seen in the public eye, the more connections I’ve made with fans and artists alike.
