How did you learn to do what you do?

We both attended Art Institute of California – San Diego. A trade school for Graphic Design and Advertising. Majority of the programs we use today  were introduced to us there. Through our work, we’ve been able to experience studio and agency environments as freelance contractors, in Los Angeles, California. A big part of what we do is learning how to work on a team with a lot of moving parts. Being part of a community of talented designers has been a big influence on developing our skillset. A shared passion for music led us to underground electronic shows (Drum N’ Bass mainly) and music festivals, which really gave us a lot of insight on VFX, Experiential Design, and overall design in most avenues.

Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process?

Business classes might have been helpful skills to pursue as creatives. Might have helped prepare us on how to negotiate with clients faster than trial and error.

What skills do you think were most essential?

What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Knowing industry standard programs and staying up on what’s changing is essential for us. Being able to communicate  ideas and understand the needs of the client is vital. Budget seems to be an obstacle that sometimes stops clients from pursuing certain ideas, and in turn prevents us from exploring new venues and sometimes having to go with a safer option.
