Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Milan Zoe. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Milan, appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Any business you ever start in your life will be a risk however for me they were all measurable risk. I have always been clear about what I was willing to invest – this includes not only money but also time, energy, and non material resources. Starting with the end in mind and engineering backwards so that I could very closely eliminate the possibility of failure. Being able to calculate your risk in this way ensures that there are only ever lessons but no true loses.
I have started several businesses over the years but I would say the largest “risk” I took was opening a service based brick and mortar. Of course the risk of having an overhead and also being niche and location based makes any business more challenging. I took the risk because I felt (and still do) feel like the world needed a business like mine.
Melanin+ was birthed out of the need to create a safe space for minorities to matriculate through their health and wellness journeys. A place where they could not only experience quiet as kept noninvasive treatments that will help them both mentally and physically but a sanctuary of sorts where they could come share insight to what they are going through and receive information, support, and love.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Interesting question – My business is in the process of pivoting as we speak. As mentioned we have always been a service based business. With an outpouring of love and support for the brand from all over the world we have decided to shift into being more product based and will be launching our new fitness apparel line Q1 2024. Now to be clear I have no desire to compete with a Nike or Lululemon at this time but want to use the product to be able to further galvanize community. I believe the brand needed something centralized to continue and expand on the community healing the brand set out to do. I am very excited about this next chapter and what it will do to increase brand awareness for the purpose of impact.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
This is a really good question and while it is important by answer is simple and possibly cliche. In a world where talking about health, healing, and self care is now “popular” I believe what has built my reputation in the market is actually living day to day what I “Preach” about. I don’t just talk wellness because its my business. I walk it because it’s my lifestyle and I think that has truly set me apart in this field.
