Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Milan McKinnon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Milan, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with education – we’d love to hear your thoughts about how we can better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career.
As a public figure that hosts video game tournaments or interviews celebrity guests on shows I find my career to be unique. I’m approached by younger parties that want to get into gaming but don’t know where to start. How can you make a career out of gaming?
I love that collegiate e-sports is becoming more recognizable in our schools and providing careers for younger generations. The number one question I ask students is, what do you want to do and have you tried it?
Some students want to become professional players, just like athletes, but they don’t know where to go. A lot of our high-schools don’t have the resources to provide clubs or information which builds a dead-end for many students. The resources are out there and colleges are providing scholarships for a variety of careers: professional player, video editors, photographers, and on-air talent such as casting and hosting.
I would love to see these resources available in our schools, especially high-schools, which provide a clear and positive path for our kids.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Branding myself took time as I figured out what best fit my personality and the industry I wanted to be apart of. When I moved to Georgia in 2018, I gave up a salary positive in I.T. and had to start over again. I decided to take this opportunity to pursue full-time content creation in the video-gaming industry.
Fast-forward to 2022. Tygarlily is now known as a public figure, host, and content creator. I enjoy hosting e-sports and indie events, interviewing celebrities, and building costumes based on trends.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The gaming industry is competitive because of limited resources. The best way to stay on track as a content creator is by staying in your lane and producing content. My biggest lesson so far is that not all content is accepted by gaming communities and that’s something I needed to adjust. Now, I understand trends and trying new things.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
It could be said that a good number of people love playing video games but not everyone can make a career out of it. I spend longer hours everyday on projects or creating content but when I’m finished it’s rewarding on it’s own and I get to share it with my communities.
