We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Miku Sakamoto a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Miku , appreciate you joining us today. Folks often look at a successful business and imagine it was an overnight success, but from what we’ve seen this is often far from the truth. We’d love to hear your scaling up story – walk us through how you grew over time – what were some of the big things you had to do to grow and what was that scaling up journey like?
As soon as I opened my noninvasive body sculpting business and I started getting consistent bookings, I realized my dream had become bigger than I could have possibly ever imagined and that I wanted to expand. But I thought it was going to be in the distant future. But, I still struggled from imposter syndrome from time to time, feeling doubt during slow weeks, and had a long way to go in building confidence in my craft.
Fast forward to a year and a half after opening The Sculpt Fairy, I’m thrilled to announce that I am expanding! I will be opening my very own body sculpting spa off of Royal and 75 soon.
How did I get here? What changed between point A and point B? I think honestly it was that rather than focusing on expanding, I focused on bettering my craft. I took advanced courses, invested in the newest and best body sculpting machines, and even started talking to other body sculptors and trading knowledge. And at some point of doing that, my calendar started to be full every week. I started having to say no to appointment requests. That’s when I knew it was time to get serious about expanding. I built my business to the point where the only logical next step was to expand.
I’m aiming to have my grand opening at the end of April and I hope that you and your readers can come out! Sticking to my theme, It’s going to feel like a spa in a fantasy land and hopefully provide my clients with a much needed escape from daily life.

Miku , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Miku Sakamoto, and I have a noninvasive body sculpting business called The Sculpt Fairy. I provide noninvasive treatments to contour the body such as ultrasonic cavitation, radio frequency skin tightening, wood therapy, laser lipolysis, vacuum therapy, and high intensity electromagnetic muscle stimulation to help people achieve their body goals.
My clientele consists mostly of women – whether they are moms trying to bounce back, brides to be, or business women – they are all people who are busy, tired, and deserve a little extra help to get back to what they feel their ideal body is. (Not to say that it’s women only – anyone is welcome!)
I think what makes me different from others in my field is that I really emphasize body positivity and self love. A client once told me that I help people fall in love with themselves again and I think that’s the best compliment I’ve ever gotten. My number one rule is that no clients are allowed to talk negatively about themselves. My favorite quote is “you are allowed to be both a masterpiece and a work in progress, simultaneously” by Sophia Bush. I love the message of that – that it’s okay to want to make changes about yourself, but know that you are great to begin with just the way you are. I want The Sculpt Fairy to be a safe space for everyone; a place where clients leave with a little more self love than when they walked in. My business involves people exposing their insecurities to me, which I think is an extremely hard and brave thing to do and I truly want to honor that and treat it with respect.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I’m consistent. I provide clients with results. Also I genuinely care about my clients and their experience and I think that shows.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Referrals and social media! I get a lot of word of mouth referrals from clients who are happy with their results. I also offer clients referral bonuses so they have incentive to tell their friends about me.
Posting consistently and frequently on social media has been vital for getting new clients as well. I set aside a day every couple of weeks to make content. It’s a lot of work, but it’s worth it. I find that “out of sight out of mind” is true for my business – I notice my bookings go up when I’m posting on social media consistently.
