We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mikiko Arias. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mikiko below.
Alright, Mikiko thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My story behind my mission began in 2011 and 2012, when I became deaf all of sudden. This life changing experience impaired my balanced and tremendously affected my emotional and mental state. I looked anxiously for a healing solution to my hearing loss, but I realized that real healing comes from inside of you. When I was disconnected from myself, I could not restore my body, mind, and spirit. But I learned that if you are connected with yourself, it’s much easier to find the answers you are looking for. My mission is to create a space for people to connect with themselves, and to look within themselves for their answer through sound bath healing and the practice of yoga.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I was born and raised in Japan and moved to San Diego, California in 2015. In 2011 when I was living in Japan, I unexpectedly lost my hearing in my left ear and then after a year I lost hearing on my right ear. This is when my healing began! I had two choices; to start a healing journey by relying on medication or take the natural path of yoga. I remembered how yoga made me happy and gave me peace of mind after each practice. So, I then decided to take the natural path of yoga for my healing process. One day when I was practicing yoga in a downward-facing dog, I closed my eyes, and I saw a bright spinning light around my third eye. This was the beginning of my spiritual awakening! After losing the sense of hearing, my other senses become sharper, and I started feeling really connected with myself and with the universe. One day I received a message that my hearing loss was a gift for me to grow and transform myself to the best version of myself. I later received a message to become a sound bath facilitator to serve others and to help share my path of healing. I found my soul’s mission to serve others with sound bath healing and yoga.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
After becoming deaf I tried to stay positive and never ever give up on my hearing. I constantly thought about what I can do best without being able to hear.
I also started practicing gratitude. Having a gratitude for everything was a big game changer of my healing journey.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
After my hearing loss, I suffered from anxiety, depression, and panic attacks. I applied self-love and self-care first for myself. My job is to create a safe space for the clients, so I always try to stay grounded though the practice of yoga and sound bath healing.
