We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful MikeFrom31st. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with MikeFrom31st below.
MikeFrom31st, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
Yes, I am happy as a creative, but from time to time, I often wonder what it would be like to have a regular job. Being in the entertainment industry is stressful. Alot of late nights, and often times, you work for free to get your foot in the industry. Everyone has those thoughts. Not always having a financial safety net is a scary thing. But you can’t let your intrusive thoughts win. I know it’s easier said than done, but go for it. Once you start, do not stop. Before you know it, time will pass you by. You will find yourself years into your journey. You’ll look back and be proud of how far you have came simply by keeping your head down and having faith in yourself. So yes, I am happy as a creative because I can look back and say I am proud of how far I have come.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am MikeFrom31st, A 25 year old music producer from Broward County, Florida. I currently reside in Los Angeles, California. I began producing at 18, my fresh-man year of college. I went to a university in Charleston, South Carolina. Being in a new state and not knowing many people when I first arrived, I found a program on my laptop for beat making. Once I discovered this program, I was hooked. The beats were not good at the time, but I fell in love with the process. Seven years later, I’m still going.
The products/services I currently provide are beat leases and audio engineering. In January 2024, I am releasing my first drum kit that can be purchased online. Also, I will be providing consultations for anyone in the music industry in need of advice.
I would say what I am most proud of is how far I’ve gotten. In the past couple years , I checked off alot of my goals. I have produced for most of my favorite artist, collaborated with alot of my favorite producers, and produced multiple billboard records.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a producer is having songs release. As a producer, your fate is not always in your control. You make the beat, and the artist records on it. Simple right? Thats the easy part. Major artists record hundreds, if not thousands of songs. Out of the hundreds of songs they have, odds are stacked against you to be the one song that releases as a single. Often times, producers get excited when they find out a major artist used their beat, all to be disappointed when their song doesn’t make the album. Recently, I produced a song for Drake that was supposedly on his album “For all The Dogs”. A few days before the album release, the song got pulled off the album. When you have alot of moments like this, it makes it so much sweeter when you get a song that does release.
Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I fully support NFTs. I think it is a new way for creatives to interact with viewers. Earlier this year, I partnered with John Legends NFT company, “OurSong.” My friends and I are brand ambassadors for “OurSong.” Being apart of that company, I witnessed hundreds of artists obtain success by distributing their music as NFTs.
