We recently connected with Mikee Kumar and have shared our conversation below.
Mikee, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
I think what my parents have done right for me is not boxing me in to one kind of “career path” or choice. They never discouraged me from trying new things and hobbies as a kid so I think that translated when I went to school about the possibilities of my future and what I could potentially do for careers and work as I got older.

Mikee, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a content creator. My username is @kumar_sutra on social media & I make video content about the niches I love which happens to be anime, gaming, and overall pop culture. The videos range from skits to man-on-the-street video interviews on YouTube, TikTok & Instagram. I got into making video content online during the pandemic while I was working at WWE as a TV Production Assistant. During that time, a lot of people were confined to their homes and took up making content online to pass the time and connect with people as well and I wanted to do the same within the hobbies and niches I happen to love. The more anime content I started putting out, the more I started garnering connections, making great friends and started getting a bit of a following online.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My main advice for people who make content on social media and want to build an audience is to just make things that you genuinely like and the rest will follow. I never want to make something just for the sake of a “trend” if I don’t resonate with it or love it myself.
If I like something I put out myself, I can happily live with that no matter how well it gets received or not via views or engagement, and chances are if I like it, there will be people out there that also like it or resonate with it and will follow you for you and who you are.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I think meeting people and networking has always affected my thinking and philosophy when it comes to content creation because you really can learn so much from different people since everyone might have a different perspective on things. They might give you insight on something you didn’t know about algorithms or just the way they shoot their content or post that could benefit you yourself or you can add to your repertoire that might help you create better content or get better engagement online.
