Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mike W Nelson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mike, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I took a risk when I moved to Minnesota for my first full time radio job this past March. It has been a wild journey and I have learned so much the last few months. I am lucky to have been able to fulfill dreams of mine.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Ever since I was young I always to wanted to speak into a microphone. I played singer and later broadcaster as I grew older. I was always drawn to the live aspect of radio and tv since I became an avid sports fan at a young age. I wanted to have my own radio/tv show since about 17 or 18 years old and I am lucky to finally be able to do that. I am lucky to have my own youtube channel where I have interviewed legendary musicians such as Les Claypool and David Ellefson among others. My next goal is get my feet wet in TV since I haven’t done that yet and of course work in a bigger market soon. I am always keeping my open to opportunities.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
That it isn’t that easy as it looks. It takes a long time to get somewhere and I am learning that day to day.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Being able to express yourself. Not working a normal 9 to 5 helps too. Once you do something you love it isn’t a job anymore.
