We recently connected with Mike Thomas and have shared our conversation below.
Mike, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I honestly felt like I knew I wanted to really pursue streaming, after a number of things happened that grabbed my attention. I found a content creator/ YouTuber(CoryxKenshin) that I found that had morals and values I stood on. I found him due to me trying to find someone that my little nephew could watch on you tube. That was one of the signs. I found him when I wasn’t really looking for him. I’ve been streaming for about 2.5 years now and there have been multiple times where new people would come in and say that they get the same vibes or I remind them of him. I’ve also built my community on some similar values like, variety games, being charitable , and also showing and sharing love and support to others. I’ve joined two stream teams that have noticed and believed in the content I provide. I also have people of all age ranges that have watched and gravitated towards games, discussions, and content I provide. It has motivated me to continue on this path to see what’s out there for me. I’ve received messages from people that told me my content has helped them through rough times and that alone has pushed me to take my journey more serious and to push content of all kinds to everyone. It’s not and easy thing though. Anytime you have to step out of your shell in order to be open and vulnerable to the internet is TOUGH. I honestly feel like I was shown this path for a reason and I intend on finding out exactly what that purpose is.
Mike, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Well I’ve always been a gamer. I was always aware of Youtube and Twitch but I wasnt too sure how I could monetize gaming until I got to this point. I used to do photography and funny enough the same work goes into streaming as photography. Editing, marketing, collaborating, countless hours in finding your niche and audience. What sets me apart from others I feel is the overall feeling you get when you watch the streams. I feel I have one of the most welcoming communities there is on Twitch and we all are close. We support each other , game with each other, help motivate each other and help each other through rough times when they occur. The content is in a realm of it’s own. I play a huge variety of games with my witty and uplifting personality. So no matter what I play, it’s always a vibe and I make sure I get everyone involved. I’m most proud of the community. We’ve raised over $6k for charities and I’ve given back to my community to show my appreciation for all the things that they have done and I’m proud that they can see and feel the authenticity. I’m I never saw myself as the biggest streamer out there but I move like one. I built this community the way I want it to represent myself and I want that to be something everyone is proud of. If I ever became a bigger streamer, I know that stick to my morals and values, this community would literally grow on it’s own.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
MAN the beginning of every streamers journey is all about resilience. Imagine streaming hours on hours to 2 to 5 viewers!? You really go through the motions of questioning yourself to see if this is something you really want to do. Because that phase took me months to get over. It was definitely a weed out process. Because if you didnt know if you wanted to stream further or full time, you would know for sure if you couldnt break that threshold.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn that just because you see other accomplishing goals and number based goals, doesnt mean that you arent doing things the right way. I had to learn that everyone has their own lane, their own time. Timing is EVERYTHING. You have to understand these things because you could mentally destroy your own confidence based on focusing on the wrong things. Everything takes time. ESPECIALLY, when it comes to building thing up from the ground up, how you want it. The moment you start focusing on someone else’s accomplishments and wins, You immediately cloud your own shine. That’s not how you get to where you want to be. Try new things, focus on your community, show love, embrace others and in due time, those blessings when come around tenfold. (I’m literally still preaching this to myself this day) LOL
