Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mike Theory. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mike, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I have thought about this a lot. I remember being in Jordan on deployment laying down on some sand dunes with two other Marines. We were staring up at the stars talking about life back home and what we had planed, and at that moment i knew what i wanted to do. I began to map out my endeavors and of course not everything went according to plan, but I like where i am and we are still going strong.
Mike, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
The name is Mike Theory and how I got into the industry is by making my own way. I got back home from overseas in 2009 and when straight to the store to buy turntables, speakers and microphones. I started throwing shows in riverside, whittier and all throwout the Los Angeles area. From doing shows i began making shirts to sell at the shows and through out the years I got deeper into the creative process of making clothes, and now we have LiQ Official.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
What drives me is being creative. I feel like thats just who I am. From making music to coming up with ideas for new clothes it all comes from me trying to escape and find some peace inside my mind.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
What I get out of being an artist/creative is an outlet. When i needed a way to feel something i had writing. When I was in Iraq I turned to my notebook. That is where i found peace and was able to escape for a moment and two. Still to this day thats why I continue to be creative.
