Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mike Kelleher. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mike, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
There is absolutely one defining moment that altered the trajectory of my career that culminated in me being where I am today. Over a decade ago when I first began in the subspecialty of Aesthetic Medicine (prior to Aesthetics even being considered as a subspecialty of medicine), specifically very early in my days of injecting Botox, Dermal Filler. A very prominent, highly regarded, world renown Brazilian Plastic Surgeon and pioneer in the Injectable field held a day long training event. Due to unforeseen circumstances I was lucky enough to be invited to inject along side of him for the day. Five providers in total were to train under his watch this day and 20+ attendees would observe. The entire group consisted of experienced, excellent Dermatologists, Surgeons, etc from the Atlanta area. At the end of the day, our Mentor looked into the crowd of attendees and asked, “Raise your hand if you purely inject botox, dermal filler, practice soley Aesthetic medicine in your practice.”
Not one hand raised. His next statement was the turning point for me..He asked “Why are you wasting my time?’ “If you are not committed to this and committed to becoming the best..Why are you wasting my time?”
Of course he was correct. If we are going to practice a subspecialty of medicine..If we are going to do anything in this life, and want to do this at the highest level. We have to commit solely to this endeavor. After that day I did, and continue to this day and everyday thereafter.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started in medicine as a Combat Medic in the US Army way back when, 1993, and the rest is history as they say. I was fortunate enough to be accepted and attend the Emory University Physician Assistant Program, graduating in 2005 and practicing in Georgia since that time. I ended up in the subspecialty of Aesthetic medicine by accident. The stars aligned and events occurred that would never happen in this way again. I fell into Aesthetic Medicine and truly found my passion.
Aesthetic Medicine is still quite a young subspecialty, so it was not easy in the beginning, we are now talking a decade or so ago. This aspect of medicine was still under the radar, not a lot of evidence based medicine or literature, so it took a lot of leg work and seeking out the true leader, quality innovators, and good old fashion research. The availability was not there like it is today, but if you want something bad enough you do it.
What I would want anyone to know about myself and my business, (R)Evolution, is that we are the product of years of dedication and hard work. (R)Evolution was developed with the fundamental belief that, we can be better, and do better. Never maintain the status quo, always reach for greatness, treat people right, innovate, and be the best we can, every day.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Word of mouth. I have grown mostly through word of mouth. Which I believe is the best way to grow, and the most humbling of course.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Treating people right. I treat my patients the way I would want to be treated. Honesty, integrity..this is what not only patients desire and deserve, but all of us as human beings.
