Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mike James. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Mike, thanks for joining us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
The legacy I’m leaving behind is for every single person that truly knew me to believe I accomplished my mission. My life’s mission is to share my light, love, and positivity with as many people as I can in the time and space that I have. I don’t fear failure. I fear not impacting the lives of those I meet in a positive manner. I hope to be remembered for my energy and infectious personality. I hope all will say, “One thing about Coach Mike is that he knew how to make you smile, laugh, and feel good about yourself.”
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a small town country boy from Phenix City, Alabama by way of Ft. Mitchell, Alabama, born to the late Prince Jr. & Izola Edmonds James. My parents were Southern Pentecostal preachers, and I joke that they had 1 scripture in their bible… “Be fruitful and multiply”… and they obeyed and had 11 children. After spending over a decade in the personal training industry, I wanted to help people beyond just the physical. I landed in this amazing field of life coaching, and haven’t looked back. Coaching has provided me the opportunity to do the things I love, which is coaching, speaking and teaching. I say as a life coach, I change the world one session at a time. As a speaker, I change the world one engagement at a time. As a facilitator, I change the world one class at a time.
I partner with my clients to tap into their power and gain their 5Cs. They will become Capable, Competent, Confident, Conscious, and Courageous to achieve greatness in life. My clients, family, friends, and fans have the ability to represent the brand with a full store on my site, and I now have a group coaching program that groups, teams, and organizations can take part in.
I’m just so blessed to be able to pour my energy into something that I am passionate about. It is an honor to help people grow, change their mindset, and welcome that better version of themselves everyday.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I’m building my social media presence daily, and learning things on a consistent basis. I will say one of the things that have helped me tremendously, was hiring a social media manager. It’s important to not be afraid to invest into yourself and your vision. Working with Sherie Billingslea of Brown BOSS, has truly been a blessing. The best advice I can give someone is to be consistent, and more importantly have discipline around building your brand identity.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the lessons I had to unlearn is the belief that everyone has your best interest in mind, and those who reach out have genuine intentions. Early on my mentor told me something that I will never forget that makes more sense the more I grow in business. He simply said, “Mike, watch out for the vultures.” What he meant by that is watching out for all those that will come to you and tell you that they can take your business to the next level, and that they have the perfect solution to solve all the problems you have in starting out as an entrepreneur. Though there are many mentors, consultants, coaches, etc. that can help you improve your business, many come to take advantage of you simply being new.
