We recently connected with Mike Hudson and have shared our conversation below.
Mike, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
I manage my own social media
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My company is called Clean Cars by Hudson, a mobile detailing service that details your car at your house / work. I started my business in the height of Covid. It’s safe to say Covid was the best thing that ever happened to me. A certain corporate body shop promised me a position, unfortunately my start date was the same date Maryland went into a state of emergency. Not only was I not hired or taken care of by this company, they insulted me by offering me a lower position at a different location where the manager wouldn’t even return my calls. By the time they offered me a position I had already started Clean cars by Hudson.
With my company you get good quality along with a personal touch. I warranty everything I do, bc that’s what I would want as a customer. I treat people as people, and your car as it was my own.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Building an audience was what I spent the first year doing. That, and learning a new craft. What I love about my career is that I get to use all the skills I’ve learned over my working career. I approach every job the same way I used to watch my father approach his jobs. I think just being prompt, on time, respectful and flexible with life schedules has earned me a lot of audience. Facebook has been my most used platform, in the future I will be reaching out via a few other platforms along with a team that I’m building. 3 years in and I’ve still spent less than 60 bucks advertising.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What do I think helped me build my reputation… I’m usually not the type to talk highly of myself however Clean Cars by Hudson is my baby. I busted my butt to get where I am today. I have pushed myself to the point of exhaustion. I literally lost over 60lbs by working in the direct sunlight in temps 95 degree and up. I’d read my personal Facebook and see people complaining about the heat or cold, that fueled me to be better. Made the most out of every single moment. While others “couldn’t take the heat “. I have a unique ability that I don’t think many others can replicate, bc of that is how my reputation grew over the years.
