Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to MIKE DISCO. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
MIKE , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
Between the ages of 4 and 6 when I started to doodle and began to draw actual pictures and my love for music and bikes 🌀
MIKE , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am MIKE DIACO,… TAMPA one and only BIKE GURU. I have a movement called ÇYCL🌀MANIACS that is all about bicycles. Everything from wheelies to mechanics as well as being a certified bicycle instructor and an advocate for getting 1 zillion people’s on bikes. I am a artist by birth so anything I touch is art to me. Bicycles is just another form of art on 2 wheels much like how people supper up and paint there cars in exotic styles and colors. I started riding bikes at 10 and it’s been an on going love affair ever since. As I got older I got into music and art. Different types of art like classical as well as street. It goes for the same for bikes. I’ve combined the three and through in a little niyorican boricua salsa style into the mix with some southern flavor and Florida hospitality which has flourished into the 2 wheel movement it is today. 🌀
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes there is,…it’s called Bikes Galore. To get a zillion people on bikes and getting the people of this planet connected again. There are so many benefits to bikes except one thing maybe,…cars. i promote advocate for more people to ride bikes as well as micro mobility and safe streets. With the state of the world right now with the economy, and earth conditions bikes can help both. Also bikes promote health and well being for the mind, body and soul. More bikes means less cars, less CO2, gas prices go down and everyone who rides is a little healthier for it. It’s the only exercise you can do sitting down while being outside enjoying the weather with family and friends. You can now play music when you ride too and the most important of all is your having fun while doing all of this. What more can you ask for. Just take a look at what happened during the pandemic. The world got to stop for a moment and breathe a little,… Then almost everyone went out and bought bikes because they got tired of being inside all the time. Let’s not forget at the time it was a great way to implement social distancing. 🌀
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Making people feel good about themselves. Teaching , interacting. Getting involved with your neighborhood and your community. Bicycles have opened many doors for me that I didn’t get before working a regular job which I think is a slave trade or doing just art or just music. You see what I’ve done is combine the three,… Music, art, and bikes with a little pinch or Mozart and the beat from the streets to create a sort of soulful journey through a bike ride. Kind of like a movie. bicycles have been around for a very long time and society doesn’t realize how much of an important rule bicycles have played throughout the last couple of centuries. To be honest if it wasn’t for bicycles you guys wouldn’t be driving cars today. Yes it was the bicycle or the bicycle drivetrain that gave birth to invention of the car.🌀
