We were lucky to catch up with Mike Caliber recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Mike thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Everything I’ve learned about the entertainment industry came from trial and error along with a willingness to be successful. I feel the Most essential skill a person can have is motivation. When I was younger I had a list of things I thought were obstacles but now I realize the only obstacle I ever had was “me getting in the way of myself.” We tend to always get in our own way when we’re trying to accomplish things.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve been a club a special event DJ for over 10. I got into the industry by creating a lane for myself and networking myself and my brand. I am an open format DJ which means I can rock any crowd whether black, white, Hispanic, or Asian I can move the crowd. That’s why the name of my music production company is named Move the Crowd. My knowledge of all different genres of music and Versatility is what sets me apart from others dj’s. I can work A crowd that requires trap music all night and immediately pivot to a crowd that wants to hear 90s R&B music all nite. That takes skill, understanding and balance.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I think this is a great question. I think society is so stuck on the social media wave that no one takes time to pay attention anymore. Everything moves at a rapid pace. I feel society needs to slow down because there’s to much static out here. An important topic gets suppressed two days later by something less important only because of its viral value. Another thing society could do to help creatives thrive would be to shine more light on the arts.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is being able to service fans and spectators thru music. Being a DJ and producer has a lot to do with understanding human behavior. You have to be able to see what makes a person respond in the way you want them to your product.
