We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mike Baro a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Mike , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Once I left Universal Music Group I still felt a need to help and develop artists. That is where my company remaking+ (Pronounced “Remaking”) was born. remaking+ projects is a full-service entertainment and creative agency that I started taking my many years as an entertainment executive executive and created remaking+ sounds (a record label) and remaking+ films (the film division). The name remaking+ is a rearrangement of the letters in the word “marketing” with the logo representing “Marketing Outside of the Box.”
We have artists that are under management, consult and help artists roll out their music, executive produced a line up of feature films and docu-series. The latest project is called “recommended”. [.RECOMMENDED] is a music film series that features up-and-coming artists who come highly “Recommended”. The mini-doc series, each under 15 minutes, is shot across the country and goes into the lives of artists with interviews, finishing with music and performances. Season 1 features SHRLS (A talented neo-Soul/boom bap R&B artist from North Bergen NJ), Lil Rich (Note-worthy producer behind stars like BIA, Big Sean, YG, Doja Cat, and more), Krysta Youngs (Billboard & platinum songwriter that has written for BTS, Marshmellow, Stray Kids, and more), WHOAA (genre-defying artists, blending funk, pop/R&B, and hip-hop), Sean G (Discovered by legendary producer Stevie J and top songwriter Poo Bear), and last but least the final episode wraps with Jaeybxrd (Gained massive attention from Travis Scott cosign).
For me I want to give outlets for newer artists to get discovered by audiences. We are currently shooting season 2 and looking for more talent!
Mike , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Drawn to the music business from a young age as I admired the work ethic and talent of family members who were highly successful in the gospel genre as well as in the production field. I went to school and got a degree in marketing then and then another degree in music production all while selling beats to local artists in my college town. I eventually got an internship at Universal Music Group working at Motown and never left! Ended up being at the company for 15 years. My early career I hustled hard and ambitiously rose up through the ranks at Republic Records as I worked on campaigns for Drake, The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, Lorde, Nicki Minaj, Nick Jonas, Shawn Mendes, Keith Richards, Enrique Iglesias, James Bay, and others. My drive ended up leading me to win the Droz Star Marketing award with a feature in Billboard Magazine.
I was always looking to “level up” and I try to be as consistent as possible in my creative and global perspective when it comes to marketing. I like to incorporate outside influences and lifestyle into artist campaigns especially as I spearheaded projects at Capitol & Warner Records campaigns for artists like Migos, Lil Yachty, Mary J. Blige, Huncho Jack (Travis Scott and Quavo), Jason Derulo, Quality Control, Tori Kelly, Earl Sweatshirt, Capella Grey, Zaytoven, THEY., Rich Homie Quan, and others.
In the future, I plan on starting a foundation to give scholarships to urban youth who have an interest in music and helping those in need.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
After leaving Universal Music Group, I had to figure out what was next for me. So many people only saw me as a marketing executive in music but I had other things up my sleeve (Like film) to prove that at the core of it all I’m just a business minded executive that will ALWAYS use music as the foundation. I have too many other projects that I want to do in so many areas like web3, film, music, sports, and investing,
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
What is most rewarding is the ability to be able to give back all the knowledge that I have acquired on my journey. I want to help the next kid who has dreams of being in the music industry but can’t sing to give him the information to be the next big entertainment executive. Also, I love to find new talent on the music side and want to highlight the up and coming artists to let them shine. I have secretly been a part of a lot of superstars careers behind the scenes and I’m not done yet!
