Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mikasha Clark. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mikasha, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success is not final. Failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts. Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will. It takes a lot of hard work, consistency, and passion to be successful. But just because you aren’t exactly where you want to be doesn’t mean you’ve failed. You are on your path to success. It may be a bumpy road, but it’ll make for an even better success story! Keep going!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
From as early as I can remember, I always loved anything to do with art and taking photos. When my sister got engaged in 2011, I borrowed a friend’s camera and researched everything I could find about that camera and photography for about a month.
I had only ever dabbled in it, and never really owned a fancy digital camera. My only experience with a camera was a basic point-and-shoot digital pocket camera. After taking her engagement photos, I posted them on Facebook and started getting requests from friends to take their photos.
From there, my business took off. My husband surprised me with my first DSLR a few months after my sister’s engagement session. 12 years later, I now have a 1,500 sq ft commercial studio space (5 years in May) and provide a high-end experience with a full client closet for my clients. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else!
I offer digital packages as well as premium products like photo books and custom USB’s, etc. I also offer a full client closet with handmade custom dresses and outfits for newborns-12T.
Growing up, I was very shy. So being a solo business owner who is an introvert is a struggle in itself. But this photography business has really opened me up to new people, places, and experiences.
With the pandemic in 2020, it was a huge setback for my business financially. 2019 (my 8th year in business) I was on track for the best year yet. It has been a struggle the past 3 years to set goals and achieve them, but I still wake up every day blessed to be doing what I do. The struggle is worth it!
I started with couples and wedding photography in 2011. When my friends started having babies, I slowly started taking on family, newborn, maternity, and milestone photography. I “retired” from wedding photography 4 years ago (2019) and put my full focus on family, newborn, maternity, and milestone photography. I have also done business headshots, and senior sessions, and here recently started a completely separate business page and website for boudoir photography.
I fell in love with boudoir photography last year (2022) when I had my boudoir photos done by a photographer friend in Indiana. She encouraged me to visit her and book a session. I am so glad I did because it changed my life and helped me see so much more beauty within myself that was hidden after having 2 children.
I am now offering boudoir photography full time and hope to help other women see just how beautiful they are too! I would say my studio and client closet set me apart from others. I pay very close attention to detail and love being able to help style my clients and in return help them save money on outfits.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Honestly, support from your friends and family is very important. Giveaways help get you’re name out there too while blessing someone with a photoshoot. Being consistent with your content and only sharing what you’re really passionate about.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I love helping create lifetime memories for my clients. Sharing such precious moments with them that they can enjoy and pass down to future generations.
