Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mikaela Moody. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mikaela, appreciate you joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
In my three plus years as a content creator, I’ve learned that even though going viral seems incidental, it is usually the result of research and strategy. Trial and error is how you figure out what really works and what your audience enjoys seeing from you. It’s essential that your content provides value. Viewers don’t care about content that only serves the creator. What’s in it for them? Education, inspiration, and entertainment are the keys. Looking back, I wish I had realized this earlier. I would have committed more time to researching social media trends at the beginning of my career, which would have allowed for faster growth earlier on. Flexibility, confidence, patience, and analysis have been my most crucial skills in becoming a master of social media and an influencer. So far my biggest obstacles have been the anxiety and fear of failure that comes with taking risks. However, taking those risks has resulted in great rewards.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Stop fighting the urge. Buy yourself the toys! Hey y’all, I’m Mikaela Moody. I’m a content creator and the one woman show behind @themoodybratz on TikTok(122K+), Instagram(36K+), and Youtube(3K+). Currently I make videos of doll restorations, unboxings, diorama stagings, doll hunts and basically all things toy and miniature collecting. I’m teaching doll DIYs, showing off the imperfection of my collection and encouraging people to embrace their inner child.
Being creative is something that’s always come natural to me. Also… I’ve loved attention as long as I can remember. I used to wear feather boas and bunny ears to school in 7th grade on a regular basis, so making bold choices has never intimidated me. I also did all the school plays and (inevitably) earned a degree in acting at age 19, coming of age in a world where social media was becoming a bigger and bigger part of our lives. Then in 2019, enter the scene: TikTok. I quickly discovered my affinity for content creation and successfully made vegan cooking videos for over a year, gaining a following of over 100K.
In 2021, I rediscovered my love for miniatures and Bratz dolls and began my collection, which now consists of countless minis and over 150 dolls. For me, I go all out or not at all. So I made an entire new page for my toy collecting and miniature content, which blew up instantly. No one in the niche was doing what I was how I was. I quite literally squeal with excitement in my videos and unapologetically show off fashionably unhinged outfits. The excitement I share about my projects or things I’m adding to “The Museum,” as my display is affectionately called, is genuine, and you can feel it through the screen. I’d be lying if I said this platform I’ve built wasn’t one of my proudest accomplishments. It’s a fun, safe place to enjoy what you deserve: to buy yourself the toys!
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to inspire people to buy the toys they’ve always wanted and enjoy their lives more. The mission is for the internet and I to have fun together.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Consistency doesn’t mean posting everyday. Consistency means showing up with the same energy, the same vibe whenever you do post. This creates a relationship with your audience where they know what to expect when when you pop up on their For You Page. This positive expectation will stop them from scrolling and give you that ever-desired view. This is a strategy I’ve used throughout building my social media platform. Another important thing to remember is that you need to provide value to your audience, otherwise they will not have a reason to watch. Think about the problems your ideal viewer has and offer them the solutions. Education, inspiration and entertainment are three key ways in which you can provide value.
