We recently connected with Miguel Uribe and have shared our conversation below.
Miguel, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The mission behind X-Tra Mile Futbol is to train individuals who are serious about taking their skills to the next level. When I first moved to this area, I saw a huge need for personalized training for young soccer players. Soccer was still not a huge culture in our area, so I saw how players were falling into a gap. I could not believe it! Growing up in Bogota, Colombia, I saw soccer everywhere! I wanted to fill that gap for the most passionate players. The players who train with X-Tra Mile are the most serious players in this region. They train regularly and they train hard. It has been amazing to watch the growth of my company because with its growth, I know that means there are SO many more players who are gaining access to individualized training.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My company is X-Tra Mile Futbol, LLC. I started this business because I noticed a huge need for individual training programs for soccer players. I was born and raised in Bogota, Colombia, so I grew up with soccer EVERYWHERE. When I moved to the States, and more specifically, when I began playing professional soccer, I began to notice how drastically young soccer players needed access to personal training. This region was not quite fully tapped into soccer culture and as a result, I saw young soccer players not being able to reach their fullest potential. I wanted to fill the gap and be the reason these players were gaining access to individualized training. I wanted them to be able to play at the next level and be prepared to be a top competitor. My company first started with me traveling to one or two client’s homes and training a player. Now, the X-Tra Mile family has three training locations and not only do we provide personal training, we do group sessions and camps! It has been unreal watching the growth happen. I feel so fortunate that people want to be part of the X-Tra Mile family.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Being a small business, reputation and word-of-mouth recommendations are everything. I always want my brand to be a direct representation of my heart and values. From the very beginning I was honest and very open with my clients. By staying true to my word and pouring my all into my sessions, I believe I was able to build a solid reputation for my company.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When my company first started, I would travel to my client’s houses and train them there. Seven days a week, for many hours a day, I would travel from city to city in order to train as many clients as possible. Because I was a new business and new to the area, I felt I needed to foster that familiarity and trust with my clients. By going above and beyond and traveling to them, I was able to make great relationships with my clients. However, as X-Tra Mile grew, it became impossible for me to travel as much as I was! I decided to pivot and host all of my sessions at one field and have clients come to me. This allowed me to maximize my time and not have to take travel into consideration when booking sessions. I am less fatigued and can train more clients since I made this decision!
