We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Miguel & Juan Rosales a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Miguel & Juan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
We would work on our own custom projects in our parents garage since the end of high school and post them to social media. A few years passed, we kept “visiting” to work in the garage and our first client then messaged us if we could do something for him; it snowballed from then. Before we knew it, we outgrew the driveway and then outgrew our first shop within the first year
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I (Miguel) am an electrician by trade. I stumbled into the trade by accident right out of high school. Juan is a welder by trade and went to college to learn right after high school. Necessity led us to work on our own trucks and knowing what we knew, we decided to start creating our own custom work. We made everything from custom metal furniture, lamps, roof racks, bumpers, believing that if we kept going, something would catch. In 2019, our Offroad jobs caught some wind.. Some things that set us apart from most people is our quality and resiliency. Metal and electrical is unforgiving and small imperfections can be seen. Through thick and thin, we also refuse to quit on this, or each other
We’re very proud of how far we’ve gotten by thinking outside of the box. We’ve taken on jobs and fixed many things that most people wouldn’t and couldn’t. This with our creativeness has led us to stand out from most with our custom work
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Our turning point was in 2019. During covid, most welders got laid off. Money still needed to be made so juan took on our side hustle full time. When welder jobs opened up again, no one would hire for more than minimum wage and with over 10 years of experience this was unacceptable, but with the ball rolling from the time off, juan was able to jumpstart the business and build a clientele whom trusted us.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
We still do not do this full time. We each have full time labor intensive jobs. Coming to the shop to do more labor intensive work for another 6 hours 6-7 days a week for a few years now has been one of our hardest obstacles. We face adversity every day through mental and physical exhaustion, yet we figure out the next step and choose to look at the light at the end of the tunnel. We do believe that our plans and efforts to grow the brand where we want it, will suffice. We also know that adversity is part of the process so as weird as it sounds, we welcome it any day, because it only makes us stronger
