We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Miguel Cairo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Miguel, thanks for joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
The name “Unique Web Designer” was born out of my frustration with the lack of originality in the web design industry. As I started working with clients and exploring competitors, I noticed a recurring trend: cookie-cutter designs. Many companies relied heavily on templates, churning out websites that felt uninspired and lacked personality. Businesses were getting online, sure, but their websites weren’t truly theirs.
I saw this as a missed opportunity. A website should reflect a brand’s individuality, not just serve as another generic placeholder. That’s when it hit me: I wanted to build a company that prioritized creativity and originality above all else. Every website we design would stand out, created specifically for the client’s unique voice and vision.
That principle became the foundation for Unique Web Designer. The name itself is a promise—that no two websites we create will ever look the same. It’s about redefining expectations and proving that quality and creativity can coexist, even in an industry dominated by templates.

Miguel, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Miguel Cairo, and I’m the founder of Unique Web Designer, a Fort Lauderdale-based company specializing in custom website design and development. I got my start as a freelance web developer, diving headfirst into projects and taking on more than I could handle at times. Over the years, that drive led me to build a team and grow the business into what it is today.
Our primary focus is creating unique, impactful websites—mostly using WordPress and occasionally Shopify for e-commerce clients. Unlike many companies that churn out template-based designs, we pride ourselves on building websites that reflect each client’s personality and business goals. Whether it’s helping a small business increase online bookings, like we did for airboattour.com, or boosting sales and conversions, as seen with gojifresh.com, our goal is always to help clients stand out in a crowded marketplace.
What sets us apart? For starters, we value originality. We’re not just creating websites; we’re building online experiences that are purpose-driven and visually stunning. Beyond that, we offer tools like a Web Design Cost Calculator and a Branding Color Wheel on our site to engage users and simplify the decision-making process.
I’m particularly proud of the risks I’ve taken to grow this company—from starting as a freelancer to learning tough lessons after a failed business venture. These experiences shaped my approach to entrepreneurship, emphasizing both creativity and practicality.
For potential clients, I want them to know that we’re here to solve real problems—whether it’s improving traffic, conversions, or simply creating a website that makes them proud. For me, success isn’t just about delivering a product; it’s about delivering results that matter to our clients. That’s what makes all the hard work worth it.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Our most effective strategy for growing clientele has been hyperfocusing on local businesses. By prioritizing clients in the Fort Lauderdale area, we’ve been able to build stronger relationships and deliver results that resonate within our community.
We leverage our Google Business Profile to boost local visibility, ensuring it’s optimized with reviews, updates, and project highlights. This not only helps us rank for local searches but also builds trust with potential clients who see us as a go-to web design partner in their area.
Focusing locally has allowed us to create meaningful connections and become a trusted name in the community, driving consistent growth through referrals and repeat business.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One story that stands out is from before Unique Web Designer became what it is today. I once ran a cellphone recycling business, which unfortunately didn’t work out. Watching that venture fail was tough—it meant facing financial losses, questioning my decisions, and wondering if entrepreneurship was even for me.
But instead of letting it stop me, I saw it as a lesson in resilience. That experience taught me the importance of calculated risks, adaptability, and listening to what the market truly needs. I carried those lessons into building Unique Web Designer, starting small as a freelancer and slowly growing into a thriving business.
Now, every project we take on, every client we serve, is a testament to bouncing back and staying focused on the long game. Failure wasn’t the end; it was just the push I needed to build something stronger.
