Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mico White. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mico, appreciate you joining us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
Well, it wasn’t An easy transition from working a full-time job in corporate to now being a business owner. Mainly because I was afraid. I truly was afraid that I wouldn’t make enough to pay the bills or enough clients to keep myself afloat. which is exactly what happened. But that speed bump in my career motivated me to learn proper advertising and networking which helped me build my clientele to a point where i have a steady flow of business. knowing what I know now I would have quit my job much sooner it.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Well, my name is Mico White I am Filmmaker / Director / Videographer / Video Editor. In shorter words I specialize in all types of video production. I got into this industry about 10 years ago just recording videos for hip hop dancers. it didn’t take long for me to want to do more than that style, so I started to read training manuals and go to classes and follow people around that did different type of videos then what I did. I wanted to be challenged, and it was so much fun. I can honestly say what sets me apart from others is people say they love what they do but I have to say I’m in love with what I do. sometimes I’ll make videos for hours and forget to eat. I keep a notepad app on my phone to write down ideas that will pop up in my head randomly. I will retire from videography one day and still do it after I retire.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
How i built my audience on social media was just natural at first. comment and liking pics as usual and they would do the same back. later on I started asking for feedback from my audience in which that helped alot with the audience feeling engaged into the process of my growth. people start sharing with their friends and they would add me and i would talk to them too. building a little rapport here and there really helped alot.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
doing good business. word of mouth travel faster in your community better than any other marketing tool. especially if it’s a negative feedback. so, trust is important in business, a new client will want to work with you only because they best friend said they had a good experience with you. the client doesn’t even need to see your work once they hear that. but doing good business required clear and open communication, you have to listen more then you speak but listen to understand.
