We recently connected with Michelynne Mccarter-Bell and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Michelynne, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Our mission is to reframe the thought process of HR. HR is typically known as the firing squad or red tape office. We’ve changed the narrative to show you that HR is an organization’s strategic partner! We develop leaders, and we make the workplace a better inclusive, engaging, and meaningful workplace. We want people to be excited about sharing their gifts with the world!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I absolutely LOVE HR! My career started at the University of Houston, helping business students secure employment after graduation. During my tenure at U of H, I grew a love for recruitment and program development! After leaving the university I transitioned into Healthcare where I led multiple corporate and medical teams in recruiting the best talent. I also served as an HR generalist helping our managers navigate employee relations issues with their teams.
After leaving healthcare, I started my HR firm where I have been able to help many organizations with their comprehensive HR needs. We have been in business for over 5 years and oversaw organizations through the COVID-19 pandemic.
I love leadership development! We also host retreats and leadership development courses throughout the year!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A big lesson that I had to unlearn going into entrepreneurship is that success is measured by the company or entity for which you work.
I didn’t see entrepreneurship as a real thing because I was taught to go to college, get a degree, and work in corporate.
When I decided to pivot in a different direction I had to teach myself how to not just be in my business but foster and grow it. This caused me to take my knowledge in HR, and mentor team members who can carry out our day-to-day operations while I learned how to become a CEO. Lots and lots of learning was and is ahead of me.
I had to commit to being a lifelong learner.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Being in business and growing a company shows resilience. Showing up and doing the work even when you can’t trace the result shows your commitment to the assignment.
