Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Michelson Desrosiers. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Michelson, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
It’s not what you know, it’s what you do with what you know. Do not lie. Once you start lying, you will start to habitually practice that lie and what you practice is who you will become. You will then start to lie to yourself and fail to acknowledge any discipline, focus, habits, or skills that you may lack. Do not take anything personally. The lack of support will disappoint you but you have to remember that the world does not revolve around you. Everyone has their own life to live. Do not make assumptions. Making assumptions is the best form of self-sabotage. Instead, ask questions and do your research. Always remember to never do less than your best, as cliché as that may sound. You would be surprised by the lack of effort we would put into something we want. The saying “don’t judge a book by its cover” Listen to me, you will be judged by your cover. Image plays a big role in our world, that’s why we tend to have a favorite color. Being successful is hard work but being homeless is even harder.
Michelson, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello! My name is Mike, I was born in Haiti and raised in Miami, Florida. I have always been good at nothing, I mean absolutely nothing and so I joined the Army. I spent a lot of time in my life being a great disappointment. All I can remember is doing everything wrong, getting beat up, being laughed at, and making terrible decisions. Even in grade school I always had problems with zoning out in class. Yup, I was that kid. However, my biggest weakness became my strength. Knowing that I was not good at anything gave me the humbleness to be taught. Disappointing everyone gave me the ability to move freely without anyone holding me to any type of expectation. Doing everything wrong gave me the tools and skills to speak about life-teaching lessons, resilience, and provide motivation. My terrible decisions gave me the skills for situational awareness. My problems with zoning out gave me the mindset to manifest. Getting beat up made me stronger. Being laughed at – well like I always say, “why ruin somebody’s happiness?”
As I am transitioning out of the military and starting to grow my clientele as a Tax Preparer for iTax Associates, I realized the lack of financial literacy. My vision is to grow the company’s capabilities to provide financial mentorships and stability strategies. Financial instability is the second leading cause of divorce in the U.S. we strive to keeping families going through economic hardships together. I have seen so many good, young men going against their moral compass and character by committing a criminal activity for the sake of their families. I believe that with the right guidance and knowledge of financial literacy, these young men could have a different type of future. In hope to influence people to better life and financial decision-making. Helping one person can make a better future for many.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
Team morale should come easy, treat people how you would like to be treated. Take the time to know how they are doing. Remember where you came from. Trust me, your life gets easier when people enjoy coming to work for you. But also, be careful and do not be too relaxed. Your goal is not to be someone’s best friend. Recognize and acknowledge your people’s effort by picking a day to carry out team events. Building team morale shouldn’t be hard if you give and receive respect.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
A business partner is hard to find. To meet a good business partner, you must start the business yourself. You will meet the right person once you start putting yourself in the right area. Personally, I do not believe in a business partner. It is not my type of style, but I do believe in having a team.
