We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ang Sirena a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ang Sirena, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
The struggling/starving artist route isn’t a path for the faint hearted, but it is truly what makes me happy. My passion has definitely been tested, but I knew the struggle would be a part of the artist journey. Sometimes it’s the biggest motivation and inspiration when writing. I do have a 9-5 as well and it is a good balance for a consistent check, but I know where my heart truly lies.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am an alternative RnB and Modern soul singer and producer known as Ang Sirena (ung sir-ren-uh). I provide music that makes you think and feel from the soul. I write from my experiences in love, growth, and mental health in hopes that whoever can relate feels heard. My goal is to inspire listeners to feel that they are not alone in whatever they are going through.
I started writing at the age of 16 and posting music on MyspaceMusic. Since then I started taking it really seriously in 2013 mostly collaborating with other artists in the industry that heard me through my posts. I have been doing music since through different projects but started Ang Sirena project March 2023.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I think the most rewarding aspect is when a person is tells me I’ve helped them get through a tough time with my music. It brings tears to my eyes and reminds me why I’m doing what I do. Music is universal and healing and I am honored to reach even people I’ve never met.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
We all know that streams hardly make us musicians any money unless everyone is streaming millions everyday so any support with buying tickets to shows and merch is how we mostly get paid. If you can’t support in that way, spreading the word and sharing our music means so much and can go a long way. People don’t know that as much as artists want to perform, we’re mostly performing for free especially when starting out so any help or support is appreciated and can boost our spirits.
