We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Michelle Toney a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Michelle thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
I hope my legacy will be art and simplistic luxury. I hope to leave behind an artistic legacy to the generations after me where everyone expresses themselves and have the ability to create freely. I say simplistic luxury because I want everyone to experience luxury and wealth without forgetting the simple things and not being so uptight about everything.
Michelle, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Michelle, but a lot of people call me Chelle. I’m a wardrobe stylist and I have a shapewear business called BombChelle Curves. It’s geared toward women who are post operative, post partum, or just want everything to look smooth under their clothing. I’m most proud of starting that business. I style a lot of women and let’s just say shapewear and correct undergarments make a huge difference! I love making people feel their best and bringing the best out of people.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
All money is not good money and nothing in life is free. When I first started out, I was just so eager to get work and to work that I would short change myself. I learned my worth and unlearned accepting bare minimum in order to be accepted.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I had little odd and end jobs at temporary services and warehouses when business got slow or when I felt unmotivated or even scared.
I had to take the leap of faith to become a full time entrepreneur and keep myself grounded in order to stay focused.
