We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Michelle Smith a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Michelle , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
Well our very 1st event was a Corporate Christmas Dinner party. We were so excited that this company chose us and we wanted to make sure EVERYTHING was perfect!! The client gave us the colors & the number of guest! The best thing about this event is we were given creative freedom. It was so important to make a great impression on the client! We provided two mock up tables and the client loved our design! Needless to say the event was incredible. They’ve been our client ever since.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
A little about myself, I’ve always loved to entertain friends & family so we’d have a get together here and there. I was over the birthday club at my job. So, whenever someone’s birthday would come up, I’d plan for balloons and birthday cake, just wanted to make my co worker feel special. Fast forward to 2019 and Covid hit we started doing more get together just with the family and I wanted to expand of decor (balloons). With practice and YouTube university I started catching the eye of many potential clients.
I started doing all of my nieces and nephews birthday parties to get more practice, for free of course.
What I’m most proud of is how I perfected my craft of ballooning. At the beginning of 2021 I made a list of events that I would design for. It’s September 2022 and I’ve been able to cross all events off the list. That’s huge for me because there are so many other incredible balloon artist in my city.
We strive to create an experience for our clients. We’re in contact with our clients from the 1st inquiry to the final clean up. Whatever the clients ideas are we love to bring them to life.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
We are still growing our social media, However, I’ve found that taking great pictures and videos of our work really catches the eye of a potential client. Lately, we’ve been doing reels which has been getting 5k-8k views and driving traction to our website.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Honestly, I’ve gotten clients from word of mouth and a couple from social media post! I love when I ask a client how did they find us and they tell me a previous client referred them, The best feeling ever.
