We recently connected with Michelle Silverman and have shared our conversation below.
Michelle, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Showing clients you appreciate them is something I think most folks want to do – but it’s not always clear how to do it in a meaningful way. What’s one of the best examples of client appreciation you can share with us?
There have been many ways that I have shown ways I appreciate my clients. Throughout the year my clients either hear from me whether it is a gift that I drop by to say hello. Or sending them a house anniversary gift or throwing client appreciation parties. I remember years ago I had sold a home to a client but he wasn’t going to be able to move into his new home right away, and he had a large dog that he didn’t know what to do with. So I offered to take care of the dog for 2 months before he moved in.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a native San Diegan, I never left San Diego, except for my time at the University of California Los Angeles where I got a BA in sociology. My parents were real estate brokers who owned their own company in San Diego. I am a second-generation realtor for over three decades, you can say that San Diego real estate runs through my blood! Having grown up in San Diego means that I know details and aspects about local neighborhoods that only a true native knows, insight information I am able to pass on to my clients.
I have lived in the wonderful community of La Jolla for over 30 years with my husband Scott (who also happens to be a San Diego native too). Together we have raised two amazing daughters. When I am not showing homes in either La Jolla or San Diego you can find me every Sunday morning at La Jolla’s Open Aire Farmers Market buying vegetables and flowers for the week. Her passion for gardening and flowers is evident in her hobbies of making succulent flower planters, flower arrangements, and planting vegetables in her garden. My other passion is the wildlife I have been adopting orphan baby elephants in Africa for years. I am also famous for my awesome guacamole dip. The recipe, a family secret, is under lock and key.
I know the power of having a good team behind you to succeed.
I work with a personal marketing & social media coordinator, transaction coordinator, title officers, inspectors, stagers, painters, contractors, and more – to help guide my clients through every step of the home buying or selling process. Whatever the current market conditions, My professionalism, coupled with market knowledge, negotiation skills, and willingness to go beyond the call of duty, I have ranked consistently in the top 1-2% of sales professionals nationwide.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Always being honest with my clients, sometimes it is OK to say maybe you shouldn’t buy the house. Market knowledge and knowing the trends and the insights of our market I have great relationships with my colleagues which allows me to know about off-market properties. And I always answer my phone.!
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
My best source of new clients has always been referrals from my past clients!
