We were lucky to catch up with Michelle Oravitz recently and have shared our conversation below.
Michelle, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
My defining moment was when I worked in my previous career as an architect. I had many gynecological imbalances and wasn’t getting any options from conventional medicine apart from going on the birth control pill. When I first started going to an acupuncturist, my gynecological symptoms began resolving almost instantly. I not only felt better physically but I also felt more flow in my life and my emotions. This lit a flame within me to change my career to that of natural medicine. I went on to study Ayurvedic medicine as well as Chinese medicine with a special interest in women’s health and fertility!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I got into working in my field because of my own experience of healing. I realized how much I love seeing a transformation in others. I now specialize in fertility health and I absolutely love it. Getting to see couples conceive after years of struggle and uncertainty is so rewarding. My favorite is receiving texts with their newborns and beautiful words of joy and gratitude as they live out their dream of becoming parents. My method of healing involved mostly acupuncture and herbs, but I also certified in hypnotherapy and have a fascination with the mind and how it helps a person’s physical condition. I truly believe that if a person knew how to master their minds, they wouldn’t need any medicine. That’s how powerful the mind is! I also host “The Wholesome Fertility Podcast” where I share tips and tools along with expert interviews as a free resource to help people who are trying to conceive.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
I wholeheartedly believe that what has been pivotal for my success is my love for what I do. I made an agreement with myself to operate from a place of integrity and honesty when working with my patients. I truly want to see a positive transformation and empowerment in people and believe that this sells itself. I rarely use any sales technique when speaking to interested patients, I simply hold a space for the person who I am speaking with to follow what feels best for them and most often they decide to work with me because they feel my sincerity in wanting to help them. Based on feedback from my patients, they express feeling nurtured and heard when coming in for their treatments. This gives me so much joy!
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I am a big believer in networking! And I don’t just mean networking with other fields, but even with what some may refer to as “competitors”. When you work together from a belief that there’s plenty to go around, everyone benefits. We are not meant to be an island and I’ve been happy to refer patients when they needed things that someone else was more specialized in. I also have developed relationships with other doctors in the field who saw the benefit of acupuncture for their patients. Building these relationships is super important. It takes time and effort but is so worth it!
