We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Michelle Olmann a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Michelle, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
I manage my own social media. As much as I would like to have it look perfect, its not. But I love doing it because its authentic to me and my journey. So yes my timeline is busy when I am busy and gets a little quiet when I am not so busy. But I love that its me and very real to what I am doing in present time.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Michelle Olmann and I own Hello Moments. It is ultimately a design and floral company that specializes in decor for events and interior (homes). When my clients come to me they are looking for someone who can take ideas that they have seen but want to make it their own and bring it all together. I do anything from baby showers, weddings to entire homes or even living rooms. For me, it’s all about creating the right moment for each person. When you come home, what is that moment? And for your event how can you make your guests say oh well Hello there!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Recently I have definitely had to pivot. When covid hit, everything changed. And now with the cost of everything going up, I have had to pivot even more. No longer can I be shy about marketing myself or networking. So in this new way of moving my business forward, I am doing my best to put my name and business out there. I am taking all the classes I can take and learning from others as well.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
That you have to accept every single inquiry that comes your way. That is a lie! LOL! Not every client is your ideal client and you may not be their ideal vendor either. As a creative, you want to put out the best work possible not just for future clients or your portfolio but at the end of the day, your name is on it! Working with all clients can stifle that and both parties won’t get the best work sometimes. When you do consultations, your client is interviewing you and you should be interviewing them as well.
