We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Michelle Noah a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Michelle , thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The Topic of Enneagrams kept coming up with my adult daughters. One daughter is a Marriage and Family Therapist and the other daughter works as a marketing director of a Museum. I felt very left out and could never understand what they were talking about much less remember my Enneagram “Number”. So I decided to learn and research Enneagrams… That began a 2 year project. I started by creating a notebook of information about Enneagrams that I thought was useful and inspiring. I read books and went to workshops. I decide to create a series of paintings based on the 9 Enneagram personality types.
Michelle , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Michelle B. Noah and I am the owner of Ninth Street Gallery in Dallas Texas. I have a BFA in Art from the University of Oklahoma. I opened my Studio/Gallery 6 years ago. I am a painter but I also like to teach and mentor. Having a separate place to paint has given me so much freedom and sometimes makes me giddy when I unlock the door to my studio to begin my day. It a very magical special place ghat really inspires me. i don’t have regular hours my schedule is very fluid. i paint about 30 hours a week and sped 10-15 hours a week keeping up with my Website and Social Media. I teach private lessons, classes and painting events. Right now I am in the middle of preparing for 3 separate Exhibits in 3 different cities.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My immediate family is a family of 6. My husband is an ER Doctor and we have 4 children. I took time to enjoy raising 4 wild and creative children. Teaching them everything I knew about the creative process. As my last child was entering Junior High I started teaching Art in a private school. I told my husband when our last child was leaving for college I wanted to be whole heartedly involved in my Creative dream of being a full time Artist with a studio. 6 years ago I opened Current Artist Workshop with 2 other Artist. This past year I rebranded my Studio Gallery to Ninth Street Gallery. It has been an amazing journey and I love where it has taken me. As I prep for my upcoming exhibits it’s hard to believe the hard work, disappointments and rejections have led me to a place where I am as busy making and selling art as I want to be.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I love mentoring and helping other Artist. I love to share all the things I have learned along the way. A distinctive I want to have as an Artist is being generous with other Artist. The pie is big enough fo all creatives. Their success enhances my success. I also love inviting families into my studio to paint that might not be able to afford the experience. I always look for opportunities to connect with the people God brings across my path.
