We recently connected with Michelle Mohammed and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Michelle , thanks for joining us today. Was there an experience or lesson you learned at a previous job that’s benefited your career afterwards?

So right out of high school I started to work at a construction company. I had just turned 18. Working wasn’t brand new to me, but the responsibilities were. I was responsible for employees time books, NIS, recording advances to employees, materials going to different job sites and so on. It was a lot, I can tell you that much. Sometimes it felt overwhelming. But I stuck with it. Even though I’m in a totally different field of work now, I really value three lessons, that still up to this day are very important to me. The first one being, as an owner always be the first to get in and the last to leave. I saw first hand how this lesson worked successfully for my then employer. He was able to maximize on all of his projects because he spent the time needed to do so. Two, it’s always best to do it right the first time. Which I didn’t fully understand right away. But boy that was quite the lesson too. And thirdly, always do what you love or enjoy. So these were 3 lessons that helped me in staying grounded in becoming an entrepreneur.

Michelle , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Hello, my name is Michelle Mohammed, the owner of M’s Medical Spa, “where you can define your own beauty.” M’s Medical Spa was birthed from my own personal struggles with severe acne and everything associated with it. My self esteem and confidence plummeted tremendously. I was no longer the outgoing social butterfly I use to be. It even took a toll on my marriage because I felt ugly and unattractive, even though my husband still treated me like queen, I just didn’t feel like one. At that time in Guyana had no place that offered services necessary that would help me. I promised myself, if I was ever able to do any courses that allow me to help others who suffer from acne and any other issues I would definitely do it. Many many years later my opportunity came while I was in Trinidad 🇹🇹. I started to do the necessary courses I needed to fulfill my dream with all the support from my Husband Sham. We are a fairly new Spa, but proud of where we have come from.
We offer services such as permanent makeup, specialized facial treatments, tailored each client’s individual needs, waxing, weight loss treatments, manicures and pedicures, foot detoxes, paraffin waxing, laser hair removal, skin tag removal and other miscellaneous services such as eyelash lifts and lip plumping. We use a variety of products and a lot of local herbal based products, so we can support our local businesses as well. Two services I’m very excited about the amazing results are the microneedling and the BB glow treatments. It makes me feel so wonderful when my clients call or text me about how they are excited about the results they are seeing. At M’s it’s very important that my clients feel respected, loved, appreciated and their information is confidential. Without my clients, M’s would not be what it is. M’s has been able to build its clientele by word of mouth. I love what I do and feel very passionate about it. It’s important to me that our clients see results and feel beautiful and confident.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?

Personally I believe patience is most helpful for succeeding in my field, other than training or knowledge. For instance, PMU, is very time consuming. I have to take my time because I’m an artist and my client is my canvas. Great work takes time. All of my services requires me to be patient in every way possible. With procedures or treatments and even clients sometimes. But I am indeed grateful to be able to do something professionally that I love so much.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

Results. Other than providing a calming and safe atmosphere for clients, it is very important that clients see results after treatments or at specified times after treatments. I built my clientele on referrals and those clients have been ever so loyal. I truly believe it is because of the results they see.
