We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Michelle Lutostanski. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Michelle below.
Michelle, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear your thoughts about family businesses.
Family businesses are truly special, and I feel fortunate to be part of one. Working alongside my family makes each day both rewarding and dynamic. While many assume it’s easy, the reality is that it comes with its own unique challenges. Navigating daily tasks while maintaining strong personal and professional relationships requires patience and dedication. However, we all work incredibly hard and put our hearts into what we do because this business is more than just work—it’s something we have all built together. It’s our baby. I consider myself truly blessed to grow alongside my family, and while it’s not always easy, it is absolutely worth it.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi there! I’m Michelle, an entrepreneur who runs a logistics company while also pursuing my passion for videography—a craft I got into by accident. It all started when I began managing social media for our organization, and people started noticing my work. From there, it grew—first from my hairstylist, then her real estate agent, and slowly, word started spreading. Before I knew it, my creative outlet turned into a full-on videography side hustle.
How I Got Started & My Creative Journey:
I’ve always been a hustling creative. As a kid, I loved designing rooms in our house, redecorating furniture, and eventually refurbishing pieces to sell for a profit. My creativity has always found a way to turn into something bigger, and videography is no different. While I currently run our logistics organization full-time, I find myself craving new creative challenges. I take on projects that intrigue me, push my creative limits, and captivate viewers—something that allows me to break free from the structured nature of my day-to-day professional work.
That’s why I’m intentional about the projects I take on. Since my time is limited, I choose work that excites me and allows my creativity to flow freely, rather than projects that require me to follow a rigid formula.
What I Offer & What Sets Me Apart:
For my clients, I promise a video that stands out—one that captures every moment in a deeply sentimental way, something they can cherish forever. What sets me apart is my ability to evoke emotion through my work. I don’t just film events; I create videos that make people feel like they’re reliving the moment. My work brings out pride, joy, and nostalgia, ensuring that every frame holds meaning.
What I Want Potential Clients to Know:
When you trust me with your project, you can be confident that I will treat it as if it were my own. I pour my heart into every detail, making sure that every moment I capture will bring a smile to your face each time you watch it. Whether it’s a wedding, an event, or a special milestone, I aim to create something that not only looks beautiful but also carries deep emotion—something you’ll treasure forever.
Any advice for managing a team?
When it comes to managing a team and keeping morale high, I focus on clear communication, recognition, and trust. I make sure to set clear expectations and encourage open feedback, while regularly praising accomplishments. I aim to foster a positive work environment by promoting work-life balance and inclusivity. I empower my team by delegating responsibility and involving them in decisions. I also provide opportunities for growth, lead by example, and celebrate milestones. If issues arise, I address them quickly, encourage collaboration, and always keep the team in the loop about goals and challenges. This way, everyone stays motivated and productive.
For others, I’d recommend doing the same but also being patient and adaptable. Every team is different, so be open to adjusting your approach. Also, always listen to your team’s needs and challenges, and offer support where it’s needed. Acknowledging effort, big or small, can go a long way in maintaining a positive team dynamic. And remember, fostering a sense of trust and showing genuine care for your team’s well-being can make all the difference in long-term success.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is the ability to express and communicate emotions, ideas, and stories in a way that resonates with others. Whether it’s capturing a moment through video, telling a story through photography, or creating something entirely new, there’s a deep satisfaction in knowing your work has an impact. It’s also rewarding when you can see how your creative process evolves over time, and when you get to share that journey with others who appreciate it. The connection you build with your audience and the personal fulfillment of creating something unique are both incredibly fulfilling.
