We recently connected with Michelle Keoghan and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Michelle , thanks for joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Sometimes you have to push the fear aside and just believe in yourself. Maybe you’ll learn along the way and answers will come. Get ready to fail a little. When we look around and think everyone else has it figured out remember that someone looks at you that way too!
I think successful people take risks.
Michelle , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started Valleygirl Boutique because I simply couldn’t find clothing I liked at a reasonable price point.
One thing I know is women, having been a hairstylist for 25 years. We want to feel our best and I wanted to keep it easy.
I love fashion but not the pretentiousness that can come with it.
Valleygirl is on trend, a variety of prices and looks and most importantly sizes.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
I love managing a team bit it’s not without its ups and downs. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned in the last 5 years is to drop my ego. For me that means I don’t have to have all the answers. I used to think my leadership was based on my decision making and responses to the thousands of questions I’m asked throughout the day.
I’m a natural leader and a quick decision maker so I prided myself on these traits. I have learned however, it’s much better for my team if I take time to think about my answers and include them with the decision making.
I thought a leader had all the answers but the best leader I can be is an inclusive one who listens.
I’ve definitely made mistakes wanting to appear that I had all the answers.
Now I work on teaming up my staff to work on projects or implementing new policies.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
We grow our clientele by getting involved in the community whether we donate to an auction or donate our time. It’s a great way to get our name out there and we love to give back.
