We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Michelle Jones Camarata. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Michelle below.
Michelle, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
After having some success in pageantry, I had some girls reach out to me via MySpace (yes, I feel old saying that!) for advice!
After sharing my own experiences with them, I realized there was a need for pageant coaches to help girls out, to be there for them every step of the way.
By this time, my journey had taken me away from pageant heels and into ballroom heels, but, I knew I had the knowledge and skills necessary to be a great coach!
My first every client was back in 2009, and here I am today, evolving with the pageant industry to make sure my girls attain success in whatever goals they set out for themselves.
Michelle, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
To say I wear many hats is an understatement; I am a retired professional ballroom dancer, pageant coach, yoga instructor, NPC bikini competitor and college professor at Sam Houston State University.
Whether teaching how the human body functions in the classroom or how it should move on the pageant stage, my greatest passions in life involve sharing my knowledge and expertise with those around me.
Although my time competing in pageants was brief, I had much success (Miss Tomball 2004, Miss Teen Texas International 2006) and have since become an accomplished and sought after pageant presentation coach.
I have a B.S. in Kinesiology and M.S. in Human and Sport Performance from Sam Houston State University, leading me to approach my pageant coaching in a very unique way. I know how the human body functions and the best way to help a client move effortlessly and confidently on stage. I teach body mechanics, as well as the best angles and stances to my contestants, allowing the judges to see them in their best form! I also draw from my own experience as a
retired Professional American Smooth Dancer, so my girls get an experienced and seasoned competitor’s point of view.
Pageant Coaching by Michelle offers face to face lessons out of a dance studio in Houston, or Virtual lessons to clients worldwide.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
By far, the most effective way I have grown my clientele is through word of mouth!
I am honored by client referrals, because that means I’m truly making a difference and they want to share that experience with others in the pageant world.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I let my reputation speak for itself. I truly invest myself in their journey to the stage and I am there every step of the way, in any capacity they need. As I am the only person involved with my brand, my girls know when they need me, they will get me- whether it’s scheduling, checking in, needing advice etc. they aren’t dealing with anyone else.
