Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Michelle Jett. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Michelle, thanks for joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents created an environment that encouraged creativity, curiosity, and independence. My mom inspired my love of design, teaching me crafts like macramé, sewing, and cake decorating, which helped me develop attention to detail and patience. My dad encouraged a hands-on, “get it done” attitude, teaching me to use power tools and tackle projects confidently.
Later, making wedding cakes with my mom in college taught me how to exceed client expectations, a lesson I still apply in interior design.
Their guidance gave me the confidence, discipline, and resourcefulness to turn my passions into a successful career. Today, I help clients transform their homes into beautiful, functional spaces that reflect their personalities.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Michelle Jett, owner and principal designer of Michelle Jett–Decorating Den Interiors, a full-service design firm in Southern California. I’ve been passionate about interior design for years, turning creativity into a career that helps clients bring their dream spaces to life.
I specialize in residential and commercial projects, guiding clients through the full process—from measuring and curating items to sourcing furnishings and creating cohesive, personalized designs. My focus is on making the process easy, enjoyable, and tailored to each client’s lifestyle and vision.
What sets me apart is my attention to detail, collaborative approach, and ability to deliver elegant, functional spaces on budget. I’m proud of the lasting relationships I’ve built and the joy clients experience when their spaces truly reflect them.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
I believe the key to managing a team and keeping morale high is respect, collaboration, and clear communication. I treat everyone as an equal, make sure every voice is heard, and acknowledge each person’s contributions. When team members feel valued and supported, they take pride in their work.
I also make it a point to be “in the trenches” alongside my team—whether it’s helping on a project, solving a problem, or celebrating successes. Leading by example builds trust and fosters a true team mentality.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I had to unlearn early in my career was the idea that I had to do everything myself to make sure it was done “right.” I’ve always been detail-oriented and hands-on, and in the beginning, I thought the only way to ensure quality was to handle every task personally.
Over time, I realized that trusting my team doesn’t mean lowering standards—it means empowering them to take ownership and shine. By leaning on my talented team, I can focus on the bigger picture while they bring their own skills and creativity to each project or task. Learning to delegate effectively has not only improved my work but has also strengthened my team and created a more collaborative, motivated environment.
